Nature reserve

Another sunny windy day in paradise and perfect to do some more laundry. After lunch we decided to go on another excursion – this time we chose Knisa Mosse – a bird protected nature reserve area not far from us. It was a nice 5k walk which took us about an hour and a half. We had to walk thru several fields with a lot of cows on – a challenge for some of us – but we managed to pass without any trouble.

Tonight we made roast beef of lamb for dinner and it turned out great! Served with potato gratin and veggies. We ended the evening playing Jackbox-games for a few hours. Trivia Murder Party is a favorite!

Laundry

Did some laundry today – time to change our linen and get ready for the fall. Nice to wash everything before we pack summer away.

My sis and I went grocery shopping this morning and bought dinners and lunches for the next couple of days. Time to plan how to make use of as much as possible in the fridge/freezer that won’t keep over the winter and not buy things we can’t finish before we leave.

Managed to get another 3k walk this afternoon. We should try to keep up this new habit when we get back to the real world again.

Tonight we’ve snacked on some treats while watching the “Allsången” – a nice tradition we cherish very much. And my sister opened her last birthday bottle of bubbly as a special Tuesday-celebration. 😊 Thank you!

Restaurant

Monday and our last week of vacation has started. Let’s hope it will be a great one.

It started out pretty good with a nice slow morning at home to be followed by a nice shopping tour in Borgholm. Hardly any people at all and it felt pretty safe to stroll around and visit a few stores. I found a black top that I liked but other than that I didn’t buy anything. After a while we met up with the others at my sisters favorite restaurant Pappa Blå to enjoy a delicious two-course dinner. Yum!  Can’t even remember the last time we went out for a dinner together. Besides the quick stops back and forward to our paradise that is.

When we got back home we took a 3k walk to loose some of the calories we just stuffed ourselves with and to reach our step-goal for the day. Now it’s time to hug the pillow.

New guest

Today we have had a mixture of sunshine and some rain and thunder. I challenged the weather-Gods and did some laundry which  is now drying indoors. Lol.
We managed to go for a walk in-between the showers and right before dinner my niece picked up one of her friends who arrived by bus and will stay with us until we go back to the real world again next weekend.

My sis treated us her delicious beef roulades filled with blue cheese and served with oven baked potatoes. Perfect Sunday dinner!

Last day of the Olympics

A great Olympic Games for Sweden with a lot of medals – some surprises and some expected. And it’s been great to be able to follow the event during our summer vacation too and seen most of the – to us – interesting events live on tv.

The next Olympic Games will be held next year already since this one was postponed for a year. I believe Beijing will be hosting the winter games and the next summer games in 2024 will be held in Paris. Maybe we can go and see some of it, who knows.

Swedish medals;
1. Horse jumping – team (von Eckermann / Baryard Johnsson / Fredricson) – Gold
2. Horse jumping – individual (Peder Fredricson) – Silver

3. Soccer – ladies – Silver

4. Sailing 470 – (Dahlberg/Bergström) – Silver
5. Sailing Lacing Radial – (Josefin Olsson ) – Silver

6. Track & Field – Pole Jump (Armand Duplantis) – Gold
7. Track & Field – Discus (Daniel Ståhl) – Gold
8. Track & Field – Discus (Simon Pettersson ) – Silver

9. Swimming – 50 m (Sarah Sjöström) – Silver

Gold to Sweden

Not much left of the Olympics now but today we managed to win another gold medal – in team horse jumping. Yeah!

This morning it was a bit cooler in the ocean and only about 18.5C. Fingers crossed it won’t drop any lower. Still very nice and perfectly “dip:able” though.

Saturday and a bowl of chocolate treats for us to enjoy. And some other goodies too. We made burgers for dinner – yum! Ended the evening watching a vampire-movie. I hope I can sleep tonight..

Game-time

Friday already. Where does time fly? One more week in paradise to enjoy – yeah!

Today we went to the waste disposal site with all the branches we’ve cut to tidy up our garden a bit. We didn’t manage to fit all of it into the car so we might need to go there again, or maybe we’ll save it for next visit.

It’s been an indoor day – mostly due to all the exciting sport events we wanted to watch. Our ladies lost their semifinals in handball, our horse jumping team qualified for the final and our ladies soccer team won silver in the final. Or lost the gold – depending on how you want to look at it.

Tonight we’ve played boardgames – Wingspan and Azul Summer – and then we ended the evening with a good-old-fashioned card game called 500.

Sunshine

What a day! Perfect start with a dip in the ocean with absolutely no wind. Just completely calm water, sunshine, several morning alert people enjoying the peace and quiet. Lovely.

We’ve been busy bees today – my hubby has put on the second coat of impregnation oil on the front porch and also cleaned our porch. My sis and niece went grocery shopping and then my niece has been busy in the kitchen – first baking us these treats for the afternoon coffee and then making us a delicious dinner. Yum!

My sis and I have fixed our mailbox and put up new letter-stickers with our names and address. She had ordered stickers online and the mailbox turned out great! Good choice!

An amazing sunset ended a wonderful sunny day in paradise.

Expedition

A lovely day – we’ve been busy working in the garden spending a lot of time outside. But, also cheering on our Swedish competitors in the Olympics – of course. Another couple of silver medals today – in sailing (Dahlberg/Bergström) and horseback riding (Peder Fredricson) (don’t know the exact terms of the events in English).

After a fantastic dinner we decided to do something fun together so we packed ourselves in one car (my sister decided to enjoy the evening in ur paradise) and drove down to Halltorps Hage, a nature reserve 35km south from us.

We were hoping to come across a hornbug / stag beetle – a very large bug (almost 10cm) that can be found there. We didn’t see any of those but plenty of sheep and cows. (Photo borrowed from ; Länsstyrelsen / Catharina Christensen.)

Almost 5k and close to 2 hrs walk later we drove back home again – happy with our little expedition.

Visit in town

This morning we left early to drive down to Kalmar for some errands and also have lunch with my parents-in-law and my hubby’s great aunt. On the way down there we stopped at this sunflower field for a photo. It is one of those self-pick-fields where you pick your own bouquet and pay 10kr per flower.

After a lovely lunch we went to pick up my oldest niece who arrived by train this afternoon. As we drove back we listened to the Olympics on the radio and our pole vaulter Armand Duplantis jumping on world-record hight (6.19) after securing his gold (on 6.02). Sooooo close he took a new world record. He is amazing.

My sister prepared the dinner tonight – yum – and now we’ve had some traditional Tuesday-snacks while watching “Allsång på Skansen” and the last episode of “Midsomer Murders”. Now we’re only missing our two youngest and two oldest family members. Sending you a big hug!
