Winter solstice. The darkest day of the year. Tomorrow we will have a couple of more minutes of day light and in a couple of weeks we will be able to tell the difference. But right now our days are really long. Today the sun came up at 08.43 and set at 14.48. Tomorrow it will rise at 08.44 and set at 14.50. The day will be 1 minute longer. Yeah!
Tonight we have been grocery shopping the last (well… ) for Xmas. It was extremely tricky to get the car out due to the construction – they promised to be ready yesterday but no such luck. We might need to talk to the builders tomorrow.
Light lunch
A shrimp sallad was my lunch today – haven’t had one in quite a while. It was delicious but didn’t keep me full for very long. The last couple of hours at work I started to wish I’d had a bigger lunch. Lol. But, I’m sure my figure will thank me later.
Three more days. Then Santa will be here. No snow outside – a couple of degrees above 0C and rain. Not very X-mas like.
Xmas week
Focus focus focus. Last week before the holidays. The builders have dug a huge hole outside our house now – warned us this morning that we might not be able to use our car for a couple of days. Great. Hopefully it will only be a couple of days and not the rest of the week.
Few things make me more stressed than not being able to get on with things. Waiting is not my strongest point. But, I have to learn to focus on things I can affect and not worry about the rest. Learn when it’s “good enough” and not over-do things. Easier said than done.
Advent 4th ????
Sunday and time to light the 4th candle. We also bought and decorated our xmas-tree today. So now the whole house smell so lovely of the fir tree. The little Santas and elves have come out of their boxes and are now decorating the shelves in the living room.
A lazy day otherwise – just relaxing and enjoying great sport on tv. First the last game in the Channel One Hockey tournament – we lost the game today but we won the tournament all together. Yeah. This afternoon I have been watching the bronze-game in the European Championship in Handball and right now I am watching the final. Norway – the Netherlands. What a great weekend in many ways.
New Year came a bit early
A very special Saturday. Since we will not be able to celebrate New Year all eight of us together my sister decided to invite us to a “Pre-New-Year-dinner”. It was such a good idea and we had a great evening together! With some bubble and snacks to start – then a great dinner with no expenses spared – and then some sofa-time with “Grevinnan & Betjänten” and games my sister had prepared. I am so grateful that we have each other and that we always have so much fun together.
❤❤❤
Nojito
Friday again. Me and my oldest niece had decided to meet up after school / work. We have been out for a coffee a couple of times and I really enjoy spending time with her (and the other young adults of course). This time I decided that we should check out the skybar at the new hotel by the central station. They have a terrass up on top of the roof with a spectacular view. We had a really nice time enjoying a “nojito” (a non-alcoholic mojito) and some truffles I got for Xmas. They had set up a really nice lounge outside where we sat on reindeer fur with nice blankets to put on our legs. Really cozy. Let the weekend begin!
Reconstruction
This week they started the reconstruction of our street. They have dug a huge whole right outside our front yard and left a note letting us know it will take between 10-
12 weeks if they don’t have to postpone the whole thing until after the winter.. Oh well. One wonders why they didn’t do this earlier in the fall before it got cold and snowy. Or – wait until spring arrives. But, what do I know?
Lunch date
It was so dark today. And ice everywhere! But, then the sun came out for a bit and it was pretty ok for a while. I had a lunch date today with one of my second-cousins. We had a nice chat and spent a few hours together chatting and catching up. Time goes quickly when you are having a good time.
Received some good news today about another relatives doctors appointment. One less thing to worry about.
Time to cheer on our Swedish ladies for maybe the last time this tournament. Germany is our opponent tonight.
Lucia ☃
December 13th and time to celebrate Lucia. It was much more fun when the kids were young and we could attend their celebrations at the daycare center. I try to watch it on morning tv every year but this morning I was in a hurry to get to work so I forgot. Thought they would show it again tonight but no luck so far.
Today we were treated a big basked of “lussekatter” at work – these S-shaped saffron rolls with two raisins. Yum.
Tonight it started to rain – then snow – then more rain – then more snow. It is also below 0C so it is extremely slippery on the roads now. Could barely make it back home from the bus stop.
Back to normal
Last week before the Xmas-crazyness is here. It’s been snowing all weekend so Segeltorp is once again covered in white fluff. Stockholm isn’t though – just icy roads and very slippery sidewalks.
Today our assistant came back from her 3 month internship in the States. Yeah. She has been missed. And she wants to work all the hours we can give her so hopefully that means a lot of time off for me this Xmas. Yeah again!
Had an appointment with my naprapath today – my back is feeling better than ever so no need for the heavy artillery today. Just some maintenance to keep everything in shape. Feels great to not be in pain anymore. Let’s hope it will stay that way for a long time. Took this photo from the bus when it was driving over Västerbron as the sun set. Lovely.
