The first day has almost come to an end – and Sweden has been rewarded with a silver medal in skiathlon. Congratulations Charlotte Kalla!
Sven Thorgren came 4th in the slopestyle but he did so good we all thought he would receive a medal. But the judges didn’t agree.
The other Swedes had an ok day but no more top 5.
The Olympic Games in Sotji has started. The 22nd winter games since the first one back in 1924 when it was held in Chamonix, France.
The opening ceremony was spectacular, as to be expected. The first winter games to be held in Russia – they have only hosted a summer game before.
Tretjak lit the olympic fire together with Rodnina. A goalie of
rank and a figure skater queen got the honor. Lovely. They were given the torch from Karelin – the Greco-Roman wrestler – Karelin’s wrestling record is 887 wins and only two losses in his entire sport career. Try and beat that – if you can!
Now let’s hope our Swedish athletes win some victories and bring home lots of good memories and are proud to be part of the Olympic Games. I know we have a good team and I hope they will able to perform on the amazing level that got them to be part of our team.

Tonight the whole family (well except my boys.. ) went to see the XL-galan in the Ericsson Globe Arena and what a night! A new world record on 3000m set by Dibaba, a new European record on 1500 m set by our own Aregawi and a new arena record on 200m set by the young Swedish runner Irene Ekelund. Great results over all! It is amazing to be part of so much joy and excitement!
My mom and dad started a tradition back in 1971 by organizing a race called Spiken (which is a 7 inch nail and also first price).
Athletes from Hammarby (and other clubs) run 2,7 k (women, kids under 16 and men over 35) or 5,4 k (men between 17-34). The competition takes place in the forrest close to where we live.
The winner is the one closest to the median time (the time you get when you add all the times and divide it with the number of competitors). This way the quickest or the slowest runner ends up last.Afterwards there is a price ceremony in our school and everyone gets a price and my mothers home made cinnamon roles.
This year we were honored with a famous participant – Michel Tornéus ran. He is our long jumper who came on 4th place in the London Olympic games.
Pretty impressive!
