Olympics in Paris 2024

What a great olympic games – and so nice that it took place in Europe so we didn’t have a time-difference to consider.

The Swedish team had set up a goal of 12 medals and managed to win 11;

  • Gold:
    Sarah Sjöström, 100m freestyle swimming
    Sarah Sjöström, 50m freestyle swimming
    Armand Duplantis, pole vault

Silver:
Victor Lindgren, 10m air rifle
Vilma Bobeck and Rebecca Netzler, Womens skiff, 49er FX (sailing)
Truls Möregårdh, tabletennis
T Möregårdh, K Karlsson, A Källberg, tabletennis, team men

Bronze:
Tara Babulfath, judo, 48 kg
Jenny Rissveds, 30k cross country mountainbike
Anton Dahlberg and Lovisa Karlsson, sailing, 470 mixed

We tried to stay up and watch the grand finale and ending of the olympics, but it was a bit too late for us so we’ll watch the last hour on line afterwards. France has really delivered and the games have been great with maybe the exception of the swimmers getting sick after being in the Seine.. Next summer olympics will be in Los Angeles. Can’t wait!

Five left..

A very windy day with up to 13meter/second – no flag up. A bit of a challenge with the morning dip in the ocean with all the waves but we made it!

My sis and her hubby went back to the real world after breakfast. Now we are five left for another week, leaving on Friday.

We’ve been busy bees putting a few more things away today but also enjoyed a relaxing afternoon since it’s too windy to go for walks or even be outside. I did some laundry and the clothes dried in no time due to the wind. Had to attach them with a couple of extra clothes-pins .. lol.

A very exciting finale in beach volleyball late tonight where the Swedish guys managed to win the gold medal when defeating  Germany 2-0. Yeah! What a game!

Tabletennis

Friday and my hubby had to start working again. The rest of us could enjoy a day out in the sun to start with so we all worked outside to clean things and put things away for the winter. I cleaned the water barrels that my father emptied yesterday. Still a couple of more left to take care of but we’ll save them for next week.

Before the mens team table tennis finale started me, my sis and son enjoyed a couple of rounds of “Wingspan” – fun!

We managed to win a silver in table tennis towards China. But, we gave them a good fight with 3-2, 3-2, 3-2 in the sets. Another medal to the Swedish team! And still a couple of more chances left before the olympics are over.

Kroppkakor

Thursday and another lovely morning with 22C in the ocean. New record!

We’ve been busy bees today getting groceries and starting to putting things away. My brother-in-law took care of the bbq – gold star for him!

This afternoon the sky opened up and we received a lot of rain in an hour or two. Thunder and lightning on a distance but not over us this time. We ordered takeaway for dinner so me and my hubby drove up to Ninnis Kroppkaksbod in Källa to pick it up. Mmmm. Last time we bought them from Evas but most of us prefers the ones from Ninnis.

Elise

Midweek and we decided to treat ourselves to the local fine-dining restaurant Elise. They serve small dishes that they call “middle-dishes” with an asian fusion twist and they recommend everyone to chose 2-3 dishes per person. So, we ordered 5 dishes per couple. The food was amazing but the portions could have been bigger, so we had room for desserts  afterwards. Lol. A great evening with my sister and her hubby and the four of us had a very nice dinner.

My oldest son also had a treat since his grandmother made their dinner. When we got back home we watched some olympics on the tv and enjoyed a glass of rosé with aperol.

Another sunny day with 21C in the ocean – life is good. Fingers crossed it will stay this way for a bit longer.

One less

One of the most beautiful mornings this summer. Completely calm, no wind at all, 21C in the ocean and so very idyllic. What we call an “ölandsmorgon”. Love it.

Last day for my niece – she took the afternoon bus back to the real life again. It was great that she could work from here for a couple of weeks so we could spend some time together and she could enjoy our paradise for a while. So, one less around the dinner table tonight.

It’s been a really sunny lovely day today but the forecast is changing and less sunny days are to be expected. But still nice to be here and enjoy time together.

Cobbler

New week in our paradise – so nice! 21C in the ocean now – what a change from our first week when it was below 13C the first morning.

We had my dad’s brother and their cousin w/ family over for an afternoon coffee today. My second-cousin had made a cake and buns to treat us.

Also we rented a trail to get rid of all the larger things that needed to be taken to the waste disposal site, which took the guys most of the afternoon. Me and my niece prepared the dinner tonight – pasta with a delicious sauce. Served with a choice of chicken or clams. Mmm.

Tonight we went picking dewberries and made a berry cobbler served with ice cream. Another great day in paradise!

Another gold medal for Sweden today – Armand Duplantis managed to stand up to all the expectations and beat all of his competitors in pole vault. First he secured the gold, then he took a new olympic record (6.10m). Finally he gave the a new world record a go – 6.25m – and he MADE IT in his third attempt! Yeah!

Away game

A great Sunday in many ways – one gold and one silver medal in the olympics (Sara Sjöström and Truls Möregårdh) – wow! Fun!

After lunch me and my parents drove down to the Guldfågeln Arena to attend the away-game towards Kalmar FF. About 9000 people in the audience and probably half of them in green & white. Massive support! And our team played great and managed to win 4-1. Yeah!

When we got back home we crashed in front of the tv and had a toast and some tea to end a long day before it’s time to hug our pillows.

Glassbilen

Sunny Saturday and lovely weather. It’s been around 20C in the ocean and we have been swimming several times today.

Today the “glassbilen” – ice cream truck – stopped outside of our house and of course we had to fill up the freezer. Since our local kiosk on a walking distance no longer sells ice cream we like to have a stack at home instead. Mmm.

Tonight we have bbq pork filet and veggies served with oven baked potatoes. Karin is treating us strawberries and whipped cream tonight – so nice of her!

Karin

Next names day to celebrate in our family – my sister and oldest niece! Traditionally celebrated with ice cream at the local gelato company in Sandvik. Another great sunny day!

We were a bit late to get the ice cream this afternoon since we were cheering on our ping-pong player who managed to win the semi-finals! Unfortunately he plays the finale on Sunday when me and my parents are away to watch soccer live here in Kalmar. Bummer.

Another silver medal to Sweden today – Vilma Bobeck and Rebecca Netzler, Womens skiff, 49er FX (sailing). Congratulations!
