Castle of the month – Engsholms Slott

The castle of our choice this month is Engsholms Slott on the island Mörkö south from Stockholm. We invited my parents-in-law to come along and we had a lovely afternoon.

We took the larger roads there and the smaller ones including a ferry ride to go back again. About an hour drive one way out on the country side.

The original castle was built back in the 14th century but burnt to the ground in 1912. This castle was built in 1914 and is today a hotel and restaurant, popular for conferences and such. We tried their grilled focaccia bread and locally brewed bear and also home baked buns and cakes. Delicious and served in very nice surroundings.

Weekend

What a week. Finally Friday and a whole weekend to enjoy. Had some celebrations at work today so I stayed on for an hour or so. A colleague became a member of the Swedish Bar Association – so some bubbly was in order! Congrats!

Made a nice dinner for my family and I tried the red wine I got for my birthday. Lovely! Now some corner time watching a Netflix-movie “Red Eye”. Pretty good so far. Then maybe we’ll watch the “Masked Singer” but I haven’t been impressed so far this season.

Flowers

Another chilly morning but a sunny day. I bought these flowers last weekend and they still have their flowers – lol. Usually the roe deers have had my flowers for dinner after a few days.. But, so far so good.

Long day today and not too busy for a change. We are making some changes that I am planning and things are coming into place and hopefully everything will work fine. Fingers crossed!

Chilly

It almost feels like winter is back again – except for the lack of snow. But it is very chilly in the mornings again with almost frost outside when we go to work.

Remembering this morning when we were on an over-night event with work last year. We had a small cottage right on the deck and we could take a dip in the ocean before starting the day. Nice.

Made a steak for dinner tonight since I was home early and had time. Also did all the ironing that had piled up. Great to have that done.

Warm bowl

A very busy day and only time for a quick lunch quite late in the afternoon. We decided to go for a warm bowl with teriyaki chicken and soya beans. Not bad.

Made more chicken teriyaki for dinner – lol – but served with rice and sesame seeds so quite a different dish. And perfect for leftovers for my youngest lunch box.

I had a great birthday yesterday with a 3-0 win in the soccer game to end my day. So glad my hubby came along too! And my parents of course. A sunny but a bit chilly evening – no snow or rain – and about 21 000 people cheering. Fun!

Fifty-something

Today it is my birthday. Fifty-something. Lol. A colleague gave me a bouquet of tulips and some surprise gifts. Bless her. So very nice. Made my morning!

My parents brought me this branch of forsythia yesterday. I was given the forsythia bush when I was born by my great aunt and every year it blooms for my birthday. Such a special memory which I cherish so much.

Had a lovely lunch in town before I headed back home to see my oldest son for a bit and also get changed for our evening-fun. Going out to dinner with my hubby and parents and then we are attending a soccer game. A win tonight would really make my day but I’ve had a great birthday regardless.

Thank you all for the greetings and best wishes. Means a lot!

Flag up

Today I had invited my family over for coffee and cake this afternoon to celebrate my birthday a day in advance.

We put the flag up defying the weather – it’s been raining all day more or less. Took it down tonight and put it in the drying cabinet. Lol.

Everyone could come except my youngest niece and we had a lovely couple of hours chatting. We had bought a blueberry princess cake and it was really delicious, if I may say so. Very pretty too! Thank you all for coming and for the presents! Big hug!

Finally

Saturday and time to relax and catch up a bit on house chores. This afternoon I had some me-time booked – lovely with a full body massage. Just what I needed. Booked another appointment in five weeks. Something to look forward too!

Made haddock with rice and roe sauce for dinner. Served with some sallad and a glass of white. Turned out pretty good. The boys had chicken instead of the fish.

Visby was already in full bloom – loved these flowers covering the ground in the botanical garden. We are not quite there yet here but it won’t be long now.

Theme day

Today it is the national fundraising day for the child cancer foundation and everyone is encouraged to wear soccer jerseys and make a donation. So, here I am with two colleagues cheering on our local teams in Stockholm. Yeah. I donated money for the “Barncancerfonden” today too – felt good and maybe it will make a difference. Especially if enough people participate.

Tonight we had an afterwork party celebrating my colleague whose birthday party I attended the other day. It was a very nice evening with great food, wine and a lovely speech. And the birthday boy was happy and felt very loved. Check. We’ve been working together since 2003.

Great visit

This morning I was able to take another walk around a different part of the city. It was almost starting to rain but it was nice to get some fresh air. Visby is really a lovely place and I would love to return one of these days.

We took the noon-flight back to town and I’ve worked at the office the rest of the day. Tonight I’ve run some laundry and we’ve had a pizza-dinner together. Now we’ve crashed in our corners watching another episode of “Oxen”.
