New years Eve 2023

A different kind of new years eve since my hubby is still not well enough to spend the evening among friends. Hopefully we will be able to celebrate new years eve with them next year instead.

I made a four-course dinner for my boys – starting out with a toast for me and hubby – garlic bread for the boys. Continuing with a nice filet of beef, gratin and sauce bearnaise. Canned fruit with whipped cream for afters. Then some cheese and crackers for a snack in front of the TV. Now we are watching some episodes of “Fargo” – the series while waiting for the new year.

Happy new year, friends and family! May 2024 be a great one!

Tv day

We had to let our friends know that we will not be able to join the new years-party this year. Hubby is still not well enough to spend the evening with others. So, we will celebrate new years eve just the four of us instead.

We went to get groceries this morning and it wasn’t as crowded as I thought it would be.

We have spent the afternoon watching the last episodes of “All the light we cannot see” on Netflix. A quite good short series about a blind girl during the second world war. We recommend it.

No hockey today – last group game for Sweden tomorrow facing Finland. Then it is time for the quarter finals. The most terrifying game of them all..

Day off

Our youngest was well enough to work today so he got up and left quite early. He was asked to continue for another couple of weeks which is great! So happy for him!

Hubby also got up early – our car was due for yearly service so he went to drop it off there.

I was able to sleep in for a bit and have been a really lazy bee today – working on my jigsaw puzzle and watching ice-hockey almost all day long. Right now we are facing Canada – a really challenging game and if we win this one we will win the group. Fingers crossed.

We picked up some pizza for dinner since we have finished most of the leftovers from Xmas and haven’t been to the grocery store yet. Haven’t had pizza in quite a while so that was yummy.

10 pcs

Another full day at work but not as busy as it was yesterday. Still, I had things to do and felt I could ease the work for some of my colleagues. Had a 10 piece sushi for lunch – mmm. Always chose salmon, avocado and maki when I can.

Hubby had dinner on the table when I came back home. Our youngest stayed home today but hopefully he can go to work tomorrow. His contract ends tomorrow so he has to return his keys. I have the day off and have no real plans so that’s nice.

Now I’m going to cheer on our junior-pride-and-joy-team playing hockey in the group play of the junior world cup. We won the first game with the clear 6-0 towards Latvia. Tonight we are facing Germany who won over Finland yesterday. Shall be interesting.

Work again

Not great to have to get up this morning but it’s only for two days this week so it’s ok. My youngest left for work really early but had to return home around lunch-time since he wasn’t feeling so good. Same thing as his dad – cough, sore throat and headache. Bummer.

I had a very busy day today which was great since I was more or less on my own all day. One colleague came in for a couple of hours – nice with some company.

I picked up some groceries on my way home and we had beef with potatoes for dinner. Hubby had prepared the potatoes and set the table so I just had to cook the meat. Nice with something other than Xmas leftovers – lol.

Boxing day

Snow all over and cold outside. But, the sky is grey and no sunshine. Not very inviting to go outside.

My hubby is starting to feel worse again and my youngest has a head-ache so we had to cancel dinner at my parents-in-law today unfortunately. Hopefully we can see them another day soon.

So, instead of going away today we have a day in our corners watching stuff on tv having tea. First we watched the Xmas special of Vera. Love her. Then we finished watching the last episodes of “Young Wallander” on Netflix and now we have started to watch “Fargo” – the series on HBOMax. Busy busy as you can see. Lol.

Xmas day

A quiet morning relaxing a bit after Xmas eve. Doing the dishes and getting the house back in order again. Enjoying a nice morning off and looking forward to the afternoon at my parents together with my sis w/ family.

We were treated a three course dinner with the main being the traditional beef roulades, which we love so much. Served with all the trimmings – green peas, carrots, gravy, boiled potatoes, home made currant jelly. Mmm.

After dinner we had coffee and more treats and we played a game we have played since me and my sis were kids. And I think our dad did when he was younger too. One leaves the room and the rest agrees on something or someone to think about. Then the person re-enters the room and shall try to figure out what the rest of us are thinking about by asking yes/no questions. It can be quite difficult sometimes but also fun to see how you the guesser is moving forward getting closer to the correct answer. Thank you for a great evening!

Merry Christmas

What a lovely Xmas morning with sunny weather and tons of snow. -10C. Brrr.

We have been busy bees all day getting ready to celebrate Xmas together. My hubby went to get his parents and aunt, then sis w/ family and my parents came over. 13 of us this year – big family! But, we all pitched in and helped and our smörgåsbord was great!

After dinner we opened our presents and then we enjoyed our coffee and the fruit-salad and chocolate pudding for afters. A glas of my favorite Scottish whisky that we found in California to go with.

We watched one of those traditional Swedish Xmas movies together while snacking on the last cheese and crackers to end a great Xmas eve. Thank you for making it such a special evening! Love you all!

Snow

It’s been snowing all night so we woke up to a winter wonderland today. Yeah! We might get a white Xmas tomorrow!

I helped our oldest to clear out a bunch of things from his room – still have a lot left to go thru but we are making progress.

After our morning rounds we have treated ourselves a quiet afternoon watching  the movie “Barbie” together on HBOMax. Well, our oldest had other things to do so it was just the three of us.

Tonight we had a delicious dinner with ribs and gratin. Mmm. Busy day tomorrow but I’m so glad we can all be together for Xmas. Can’t wait!

Winter solstice

Darkness and rain when going to work this morning. And my youngest leaves even earlier – before I wake up. What a hero. He has really worked hard this month with long days and long commute.

A very busy day and I got most of my assignments done. Perfect. Now I can enjoy my four-day weekend with a good conscience with nothing hanging over me. Got in early today, just had a quick lunch and stayed over a bit.

But, now I’m home – all the xmas presents are wrapped and under the tree, most of the food is in place. Now we need to tidy up, get the last groceries and sort out the final preparations and we are ready for our guests on Sunday.

And today it is the winter solstice which means that as of tomorrow we are getting longer days again. Hurray!
