Late night

Last day of July already and a day filled with both sunshine, rain and wind. We went grocery shopping, me and my niece, and I made a lasagna for dinner.

We had this little fellow visiting us today and I managed to catch him on camera. I let one of his friends out of my bathroom this morning too. Lol.

Right now my hubby is picking up our oldest from the bus stop. Can’t wait to see him again even though it’s only been a week since he went back to the city. His brother is still in town so I will have to wait a while longer before I can see him again. Great to have one of my kids back down here again though and tomorrow my dad will arrive too. Family is getting bigger again.

Sunset

Sunday already. And time for another game of soccer with our team playing from their home arena for the first time in a while. And we managed to win 2-1! Yeah!

Tonight my mom treated us her delicious burgers served with boiled potatoes and panfried onions. Mmm.

Another sunset tonight to enjoy. Good for the body and soul and I am hoping the image will etch to my mind so that I can recall it later on this fall when I need some peace and mindfulness.

Great game

This morning Sweden played the second game in the Women’s World Cup – this time towards Italy and we managed to win 5-0. Amazing. Fun.

After lunch our two guests took the bus back to the city and we are down to six for a couple of days.

We went for an hour long afternoon walk today (photo from yesterday though) – nice lovely sunny day today and the water temperature are up by a degree or two. Lovely.

Tonight my sister will treat us her beef rulads – mmm! Maybe we’ll watch a movie together tonight and celebrate Saturday eve.

Lazy day

Finally a lazy day at home with no reason to leave the hammock besides taking a nice long walk with my mom. Finished reading my book – Johan Theorin / Benvittring – and started on the next one – Johanna Bäckström Lerneby / Familjen.

This morning it was completely calm outside – sunshine and no wind. What we call an “Öland morning”. The best way to start the day. Still only 17C in the ocean though but now I’ve gotten used to the temperature so it’s quite nice.

Tonight our guests will prepare the dinner so that will be a nice treat to look forward to. Can’t believe it’s Friday already. Again.

Two more.. Castles of the month – Solliden and Borgholms Slott

Since my hubby didn’t come along to the castle in Kalmar we visited another castle near by together instead. Sollidens Slott in Borgholm, Öland, where the royal family has their summer residence.

The whole family went there for a stroll around the parks and enjoying this years exhibitions which were a bit extra fancy due to the 50 year anniversary our king celebrates on the throne.

Next month I will visit another castle without my hubby and since it is right next to this one we took another selfie infront of it – Borgholms Slott. I will go there with my sis w/ family to see a concert next week.

So – three castles for me this month!

Tonight me and my sis first attested the annual meeting of the community and afterwards we all enjoyed a take-out dinner which here on the island means “kroppkakor” – potato dumplings filled with smoked pork, onions and seasoned with all spice. Yum!

Three less

Today my dad and my boys took the midday-bus back to town and all of a sudden we were three less in our paradise.

Our guests treated us a delicious vegetarian lasagna tonight – with green lentils and zucchini. Fun to try something new! Thank you!

After dinner five of us wanted to go for an evening walk so we drove up to the nature reserve area close by called “Knisa mosse” and walked the 5k trail around the wetland in the company of various animals. Cows, different kinds of birds and even a badger.. 1,5hrs later we arrived back to the parked car. Back home we enjoyed an ice cream before it was time to hug the pillow. The three travelers arrived safely back home about the same time as we got back from our walk.

Bbq fish

This morning the temperature had risen a degree and it was 17.3C again in the ocean. Still sunny and windy but not very warm. When will summer return?

After breakfast we went into Borgholm for some shopping for the fish bbq tonight. We found the kind of fish we wanted – guilt headed breams, mackerel and mussels. And steak for the non-fish-eaters.

Tonight we bbq the fish and served it with oven baked potatoes, veggies and sauces. And mussels boiled in white wine. Mmm.. We could sit outside and enjoy our dinner for the first time this summer (for my family anyways). Fingers crossed we will have many more opportunities to do so this vacation. Tomorrow my boys and dad will return to the city for various reasons. My oldest and my dad will return next week.

Kristina

A day filled with mixed feelings.

Totte didn’t wake up this morning (my sisters family’s pet rabbit since close to 12 years) so it was a sad start of the day. 🐇

We had planned a trip to Kalmar and decided to stick with those plans and we had a nice day down there. Five of us went and the rest stayed home. L took the bus back to Stockholm today so now we are down to 11 again.

July 24th means that it is Kristina’s names day today and we always celebrate this day with a strawberry cake. My mom made the cake, my oldest niece put it together and I decorated it. Team effort! And it turned out great.

Castle of the month – Kalmar

Field trip day down to Kalmar for some shopping and touristing with our guests.

Castle of this month is Kalmar Slott even though my hubby didn’t come along for the ride. Maybe we’ll visit the castle once more this month.

As you can read on its website – “Kalmar Castle is a symbol for Kalmar. Its history features international politics, court intrigues, fiery sieges and fierce battles. Today the castle is a vibrant and lively place, welcoming guests from near and far. Now it’s your turn to visit. Come write the latest chapter in its 800 years of history.”

Women’s world cup

Today Sweden played our first game in the women’s world cup facing South Africa. And we won 2-1. Yeah!

It was down to 17.3C in the ocean this morning and no real summer feel all day. Sunny but chilly. I have baked a cake and done some laundry.

Tonight it is someone else’s turn to fix dinner so I will relax and enjoy the luxury of being served great food – burgers are on the menu. Mm.
