The day has finally arrived! I am so upset that I still have a terrible cough and not feeling one hundred per cent but oh well. Time to pack the bag and drive to the airport. My niece was an angel and drove us there.
We arrived in London a few hours later and took the subway into town with our pre-ordered Oyster-cards. Everything went according to plan and we found our hotel without any problem. It was situated right in between Oxford St and New Bond St in the middle of all the shopping. A nice room with three comfortable beds and a bathroom with shower. Perfect for a few nights. Let the fun begin!
Rainy and dark
Tuesday. A rainy city but with some sunshine in the afternoon for a bit. Quite a busy day and very productive – felt good to go home with a sense of accomplishment.
Tried to check in on-line but the SAS-app wasn’t cooperating and asked me to try again later after a few attempts. But I think I managed to select seats for us. Tomorrow we are on our way for our weekend-adventure in London. So – I will not be posting anything for a while, only a daily photo. Fingers crossed everything will go according to plan and that we all will feel good and have a great time together. Can’t wait.
Lunch date
New week – new challenges. My cough is no better but I feel pretty good during the day so I decided to go to work. Short day to start with and lunch date with my niece. Great to see her and spend some time together! Love it! We had a sallad lunch and then we went to a few stores to get a couple of things. I needed new medicine and knee high nylons. Check.
Day 16 (or 22 if you count the weekends) in our remodeling project – and today it looks like he has finished tiling the walls. Tomorrow he might start on the floor tiles. He has put something on the floor today – one more lair of preparations. Very thorough.
Coffee in town
Sunday and one more day to rest before it’s time to get back to work again. Coughed some last night but not too bad. The mornings are not great though but I feel pretty good during the day. Crash in the eve again.
My husband accompanied me to town to have coffee with our friends from Scotland. We had a lovely couple of hours together chatting and catching up. So good to see them again! They were in town to attend a Masters diploma ceremony at the University – yeah! Congratulations!
Had dinner together all four of us tonight – made sirloin steak with potatoes and it turned out really tasty. Yesterday my oldest was off with his friends. Need to figure out what to put on the table next week – always so hard to know what to cook.
Former hedge
Saturday and feeling slightly better than yesterday. Time to find out how extensive the damages to our hedge and lawn are. My husband cut off all the broken branches and tried the lawn mover robot and it worked so the cord in the ground seems to be intact. The neighbors promised to fill up with new soil and make it look a bit better. We will leave it until spring and see if it grows back up again. My husband is way too nice for his own good.
I’ve been resting and trying to recover the best I can. Feeling much better today and didn’t cough at all last night so I slept all night. This morning was not great though but as the day has gone by I am feeling better and better. No fever but still some cough. Went to get some groceries and cooking some nice steaks for dinner with potato gratin. Mmm.
Staying home
I’ve been coughing all night and having trouble breathing so my husband told me to stay home today and recover. I’m never home sick but after a whole day being quiet and cuddled down in my corner I think he was right. It did do me some good. Haven’t been sleeping though since our tiler has been a busy bee finishing a couple of more walls. Just the shower corner left and the floor. He is really clever and his work is just perfect! Third week completed. Two more to go.
I postponed my lunch with my niece until Monday – I hope I’m well again by then. I also hope I will be able to see my friends from Glasgow this weekend, but not if I’m not feeling much better by then. Don’t want to risk their health or my trip to London next week by leaving the house too soon.
Thursday
Didn’t sleep very good last night for some reason. I am not 100% either – fortunately no fever, no headache, no sore throat, no running nose. But my breathing is not great and I have some sort of cough and my voice is hoarse. Might need to keep quiet tomorrow .. a challenge in itself.
Our bathroom is making progress – half of the room is tiled. Takes a while since we have chosen a tricky pattern – lol. The man who is doing the work said it was a fun challenge and nice to do something a bit different to all the semi-large white tiles most people choose.
My dad stopped by with a computer-problem which my husband fixed for him. So we had a nice chat and a coffee before he left to go and pick up my mom from church. Now a few minutes to myself before I’ll go and hug the pillow.
Aw
A fun day at work ending with a theme AW which started with a 60min strengthening exercise at the gym (which I watched from the bench). The evening continued at our office with quizzes and dinner and we had a great time in the Venice Beach-spirit. My team managed to land the silver medal – yeah! Quite close to winning the whole thing too. Extra yeah! I am so mad at myself for not remembering a couple of the answers that I knew but couldn’t think of when pushed. Bummer. Thank you for a fun eve!
Fishnet
First tiles on the wall. Yeah! It is tricky to show the correct colors since it is so dark in the room and no lamps yet. But I wanted to show you the progress since it is very exciting! They are tiling in a fishnet pattern to make it more interesting. I love it!
When I got home our neighbors had had an accident – their nanny’s car is now parked in our back yard. The driver managed to get stuck in the ditch behind our hedge and the more he/she tried to get back on the road the more he/she got stuck. The steering stopped working and the car ended up on our grass. Right in-between the cherry-tree and the flower decorations in the sandpit. They have now called for a towing service to help them. Fortunately no-one got hurt (except for our hedge which will not recover from this).
Lunch date
Day 15 (11th workday) of our remodeling project. They have finished the base work and are now ready to start tiling tomorrow. Yeah. Still going to need another 2-3 weeks before they are completely done though.
Went to lunch with a former colleague today – alway so nice to see her! She is such a source of positive energy.
It’s been snowing again today but still not enough to stay on the ground. It is getting dark early and the daylight time is shorter each day. Winter is coming.
