First dinner together in months. So nice to have all my boys with me. Didn’t manage to get off in time today either, but when I finally got home they had bought a Xmas-tree and started to decorate it with the lights. So while they figured out which ones that needed to be replaced (a very tedious job…) I boiled some potatoes and fry dipped the ham with egg, mustard and breadcrumbs. The best dinner in a long time. Another very long day tomorrow so we soaked in the spa for a bit to relax and gather some energy for the challenge. But after tomorrow we have a long four-day-weekend to enjoy before it’s time to work again.
Home coming
A good day today. Got a lot done and stayed focused all day. Saw a friend for lunch which was a nice surprise since it wasn’t anything we had planned in advance. Had to work some overtime but managed to get home in time to have dinner with my oldest and then went to pick up my mom and she accompanied me to the airport to pick up my youngest. He is back home for almost three weeks for the holidays – yeah! So good to see him again – and to have him home for such a long time this time.
Two more days .. then a long weekend to enjoy! Feels a bit strange that it’s Xmas already – haven’t managed to get into the spirit just yet.
Oh – and this photo was taken at Grev Turegatan on my way to the subway.
Edelweiss
“Du säger att kärleken, aldrig var till för dig
Att du aldrig känt vinden, högt över trädtoppen
Säger att den delar sig vid kinden och blir hel igen bakom dig
Varje moln är trasigt, du räknar allt sorgligt
Natten lång och om du älskade en gång
Och kanske älskar än, spelar det nån roll?
Nej, kanske ingen, kanske allt egentligen”I don’t particularly like Håkan Hellström but his song “För sent för Edelweiss” has really managed to crawl under my skin. I just love it.
A very long very stressful day later I’m back here in my corner. Strolled via Drottninggatan going home today and took a photo of the Xmas-lights there. All the streets have their own.
Check-up
I had an appointment for an asthma-check-up today after work. It has been under control for a while now which is great, but since my doctor wanted me to do this spirometry test I thought it might be good to do so.
The test went well and I have a follow-up meeting with the doctor in January 9th to go over my medicin and plan ahead what would be good for me. I’m glad they offer this service and call me in for check-ups rather than me having to ask for it.
Dance
Time to enjoy the yearly Christmas dance show my oldest niece participates in. Her dance group are getting so very good and it is so much fun to see their show every time. This time it was called “Move into the Winter” and it was the best so far!
When I got home it was time to cheer on our Swedish ladies playing for bronze towards the Netherlands. Unfortunately they lost after a remarkable recovery and fell apart the last minute. Bummer. But they came 4th in the WC and that’s their best result ever. So congrats!
Advent Sunday and time to light the 3rd candle. Miss my youngest but soon he’ll be back home for the holidays. I will go and pick him up at the airport on Wednesday. Can’t wait!
Theatre
This morning we woke up early and couldn’t sleep so we decided to go out to our spa for a bit. Dressed up in our swimsuits and went outside in the snow, 32F / 0C, but no wind or snow/rain. So it was really a nice way to start the day.
We gave our mother tickets for “The Book of Mormor” for her birthday and now the day had come when it was time to go and enjoy the show. It is a musical about mormon missionaries in Uganda and it was quite entertaining and fun. Served with a big sense of humor mixed with serious issues. We all enjoyed it but we all had hard time hearing what was said from time to time.
After the show we went to pick up our oldest and my youngest niece and the eight of us went to dinner at a local restaurant by the lake. A very good evening!
Semi finals
I had to be in really early at work today for various reasons and then I had to work late too so a very long Friday for me. It was really dark when I left – but it was only around 5.30 PM or so. I love the bridges on Kungsgatan – the way they have covered them with lights. And the blue sky on the bottom of one of the bridges is really spectacular.
Tonight Sweden played in the semi finals in the world championships in handball. They have never reached the semi finals before and tonight they had to face France. They did really well and was so so close to defeat them, but lost 24-22. Bummer. I was so very tired though I could barely keep my eyes opened so I almost missed the thrilling last couple of minutes. Now France will be in the finals towards Norway and Sweden will play for the bronze medal towards the Netherlands. Need to be more awake for that one!
Slippery
Winter is great. But when it’s snow – rain – snow – rain every other day, the street turns into something really dangerous. Especially if you are a nut-head and wear boots with heels on. Ice-skates might have been more appropriate. Or at least a flat boot. I managed to walk safely all the way to the bus stop and back again after work without falling or breaking any bones. Yeah!
Lucia
Lucia morning infront of the tv. Enjoying a quiet breakfast and listening to the Lucia concert from Kungsholmens Gymnasium. I wonder how Swedish television pick where to broadcast the event every year. If you can apply for it or how it works. I thought it was ok but not great this time. The quality on some songs performed was really good but not so great on others.
We had a small Lucia-coffee at work with some goodies and non-alcoholic glögg (moulded wine). Our law student who works with us did her last day today so we wanted to let her know she will be missed and that we really have appreciated her work these past couple of years. Wishing her the best of luck and hopefully we can stay in touch!
Winter arrived
Snow arrived yesterday. And even more tonight. They said on the news that a storm is coming. I guess this is what we’ve been waiting for – but Stockholm never seems to be prepared. Busses are running late, subways don’t work and neither does trains. Something about slippery tracks and rails. At this time of the year one wishes not to have to leave the comfort of your own home and get out there to face the world. But, I don’t have that luxury just yet. Not for 15 more years or so. Then I can do what-ever I want. Hopefully. Have a great Tuesday!
