My mother and I went grocery shopping this morning and stopped by the fishing harbor in Sandvik and managed to buy freshly caught flounder. Yum! Easily the best dinner all summer. Served with boiled potatoes, a slice of lemon and some lime aioli.
Today the temperature went up to 20C in the water for the first time since we arrived two weeks ago. Lovely. And we did have a sunny and quite warm day today. Tonight my husband took all four youngsters to have some fun at the miniature golf court in Sandvik. They have been a bit restless so they needed to get away and do something fun together. Let’s hope they return with a big smile on their faces!
Sunday
Another week has come to an end. Half vacation spent. Let’s hope the other half has some more warm sunny days installed than the first half did. My sister has been busy doing some craft with cement and stones – I have helped some but her work is really good. I have made a new “headstone” for my cat Trulsan – but my sister has made all sorts of fun and pretty things. Maybe my inspiration will arrive soon and I can do some too!
This afternoon my dads cousin and his family came over for afternoon coffee and our houseguest for the last couple of days took the bus back to the city. Tonight we received 10mm of rain in a few hours and even saw some lightening. We need the rain so I guess it was good. Tomorrow they have promised sun though – that would be nice!
On camera
Every morning there is a yoga class in front of our house on the beach and the last couple of mornings they have had a drone up to film their class for whatever reason. This morning they looked really funny all raising their hands up in the air towards the drone like a God was lowering down. Lol.
A day at home relaxing and doing some chores. Last lamp put up among other things. Tonight we grilled pork filet but sat indoor since it was quite windy outside. A bit later it started to rain too. And no sunset tonight either. And we lost the quarter final in soccer towards the Netherlands. But – Sara Sjöström managed to achieve another gold medal AND set a new world record an hour later. What a woman!
Royal summer residence
Since our guest has never been here on Öland we decided to show her around a bit. Today we went the royal summer residence – Solliden – which is situated right next to the castle ruin where we went to see the concert last weekend. The morning started out pretty cloudy but as the day passed it got lovelier and lovelier. My boys stayed at home with their grandparents but the rest of us enjoyed the park and a lunch at Solliden.
When we got back home we put up the new lamp pole. Yeah. One more thing to tick off the list. Home made burgers on the menu tonight. And the sun treated us a spectacular sunset for our guest to enjoy. Lovely. Let’s hope the weekend continues in the same manner.
Groceries
Time to go and get some more groceries. Today it was mine and my sisters turn and we decided to drive up to Källa for the shopping. We found everything on our list (and then some.. 😉 ) so mission accomplished.
It’s been an otherwise quiet day with some sun but mostly cloudy and tonight it started to rain as I went back into our house for the night. I made a pork and rise based dinner in the oven and it turned out quite alright. All pots and pans were empty afterwards so I take that as a good sign. My husband has been the busy bee today and has worked on the bathroom tiles and also put up another of the new lamps outside. Good work! I have cleaned out some more stuff to take to the waste disposal site. Yeah!
Day of chores
Already Wednesday. Can’t believe how time flies. Almost been here two weeks. Don’t miss the city at all. This view is hard to replace.
We have been busy bees all day and managed to get almost all the things done that we bought yesterday. New lamp outside our house, tiles put up in the bathroom, one of the ventilations installed, new wall outlet installed, clothes hangers put up. Still some things to do though but we ticked off a few of the boxes.
Another guest arrived tonight – she will stay until Sunday. She is a friend of my oldest niece – so another youngster in the house. Fun!
Annual meeting
Today it was a bit colder in the ocean with 15C instead of 17 or 18. But, that didn’t stop us! After breakfast we headed down to Kalmar to pick up some stuff we needed to continue building on our houses. A new lamppost, new outdoor lights for the houses and some stuff for the air supply and ventilation among other things. We found basically everything on our list so it was well worth the trip.
Tonight it was the annual meeting with the local community which we try to attend every summer. They had invited a guy from the company who is about to install fiber here in our paradise so the meeting was well attended. They have enough households interested now to go through with their plans and the building will start next year.
Tuesday means extra treats and tonight we enjoyed a melon sallad with three types of melons. Yum! We also cheered on our Swedish ladies in the European Championships in soccer, but we lost the game tonight. Italy won 3-2. We will end up second in our group and will still go through to the next round which is the quarter finals.
Christina
Today we raised the flag for “Christina” – me and my niece are called that so it was our day today. After breakfast it was time for our guests to head back to town again after a great week here together. Everything has really worked out well even though we were so many all week. They are such a nice family and extremely helpful and easy going. They are welcome here anytime!
Me and my niece went grocery shopping and after lunch we made our cake together. She is really good at decorating so the cake turned out really pretty. And it was delicious too! Thank you for a great day!
Sunday again
Another sunny day – we started with a dip in the ocean at 08.00 AM as every day. Today it was just a little bit wind and about 18C in the water. Then breakfast – sandwiches of different sorts, tea and/or coffee.
We have spent the day at home – doing chores of different sorts. Grilled pork filet for dinner and sat outside and played a game afterwards. Tonight there was another concert in the Slottsruin so four of our family members went there to enjoy “Laleh”. I think that is a great concert too!
Concert
The day we have been waiting for .. My sister and I had bought tickets for an outdoor concert in the Slottsruinen (castle ruin) arena in Borgholm. GES – Glenmark – Eriksson – Strömstedt – reunited for six concerts at this very special place. The concert lasted for 2 hours and was filled with their hits as a group as well as 3 hits each as solo artists. And what a concert it was! Great sound, great audience and perfect weather! As the sun set and it got darker the stage just exploded in color and sound. We had a fun evening together and I am so happy we could go.
During the day we took a walk along the coast for 75 min – lovely! And as a special treat we had ordered a take-away dinner of “kroppkakor” – potato dumplings filled with smoked pork and onions seasoned with allspice/pimento (kryddpeppar) to give it that special flavor. Served with lingonberry jam and melted butter. Yum!
