Funeral HM Queen Elizabeth II

On September 8th, 2022, the Queen of the United Kingdom passed away at the age of 96. She spent 70 years on the throne. Impressive. We saw a peak of her on our visit to Scotland back in 2018 – her car drove right by us when we visited Balmoral and she waived to us. Special moment.

Our royal family website has the following announcement today;

“On Monday 19 September, Their Majesties The King and Queen will attend the state funeral of HM Queen Elizabeth II in London. The day of the funeral will also be marked by flags being flown at half-mast and a Seraphim Toll in Stockholm.

The King and Queen will represent Sweden during Monday’s state funeral at Westminster Abbey in London. On the Sunday, The King and Queen will attend a reception hosted by the King of the United Kingdom at Buckingham Palace.”

“Queen Elizabeth II was made a member of the Royal Order of the Seraphim by King Gustaf VI Adolf on 26 May 1953. The Queen was presented with the chain of the Order of the Seraphim by HM The King on 23 May 1975. Queen Elizabeth held the Order of the Seraphim for 69 years – longer than anyone else – and was the 722nd member of the Order since it was established in 1748.

In keeping with tradition, the bell of the Riddarholmen Church will be rung between 12:00 and 13:00 on the day of the funeral. The Queen’s Seraphim arms will be taken in a procession from the Royal Palace to the Riddarholmen Church at 11:45.

The church will be open to the public and the media.”
