Snow still here – but it has been raining today so it might not be here for much longer.
One more present purchased today. I might be very close to done now. Feels good. We have decorated the house too and tonight we decided to start early and bring in the tree. The kids had fun decorating it and even Nelson (my goat) got some glitter on him. You can see him under the tree down to the left.. lol
A prayer tonight. And every night for as long as it takes.
Handball
After an extreme day in many ways it was the perfect ending to spend a few hours with my mom and dad cheering on our team Bajen. This time it was a game of handball and we are not doing great this year so it was important to win. And so we did. With one goal.. but still..
Those are the best games – when both teams struggle and takes turn being in the lead. Providing the “right” team wins in the end of course.
It was great to stand up and shout for a bit.. lol.. I think I needed that today. Handball is quite fun to watch – it is a quick game with a lot of goals. And our goalie did some heroic rescues tonight!
Adventsbasar
The yearly bazar in our church Segeltorps Kyrka took place today. Usually it is held the first Saturday of December, but for some reason they decided to move it. The ladies working for the event were quite worried not many would come since they couldn’t really have the same X-mas theme as they usually do since it took place so early. But, I believe it was about as popular and crowded as it always is.
All the profit they make are donated to a charity of some sort – this year the money goes to the Church of Swedens’ work in preventing genital mutilation of the women in Tanzania and the Scandinavian Mission for children in supporting orphanages in the Philippines.
So I am happy to help and give them a few hours of my time, enjoy the pleasure in being a part of this important cause and also buy some lottery tickets and a coffee.
The day started with a short 15 min mass in church singing a few carols and listening to the priest saying a few words. I should go more often to church – I really appreciate that moment. I have so many fond memories after almost 20 years singing in their choirs. Maybe I should start again. It gave me such joy.
Hammarby
This long and dark Tuesday ended really well with a great evening together with my father and sister. Our dad managed to get us tickets to watch our favorite team – Hammarby – compete in soccer towards Östersund at our home arena Tele2Arena. 24.649 people were there – most of them cheering on our green-white pride and joy. The game got unnecessarily exciting but in the end they pulled themselves together and won 4-2 fair and square. Very important win. Only two games left this season and the top two teams automatically qualify for the highest league in soccer in Sweden. After this game we are in the lead but anything can still happen – it is very tight in the top this year. So, fingers crossed they will make it. The season is over in about a week.
Listen and enjoy! Just idag är jag stark..
Konfirmation
Finally the day we have been preparing for has come. Filip and his cousin Karin went through their confirmation.
And the weather-Gods were kind – it was a lovely day! Quite warm in the Huddinge Kyrka – but clear blue sky and a light breeze so the tent didn’t leave the backyard (lol).
There were 14 teenagers in their group so the church was so crowded not a single person more would have been able to fit in. It was a service filled with music and joy – and it was a nice moment for all of us.
After church we invited the closest family and friends over for lunch in our back yard and it was really nice to sit down and eat and drink something after a long day.
Thank you for making this day so special!
Me and my husband are God parents to Karin. My sister and her husband are God parents to Filip.
We were invited to participate in church in the moment when they were blessing the confirmands and close the circle from the christening. It was pretty special to be there for Karin!
Anette
My sister.. today it is her birthday and we are going over there in a minute to celebrate her and her husband (who happens to have his birthday the same week – very convenient).
Few bonds are tighter and more precious than the ones between siblings. I can’t imagine life without her even though we have had our ups and downs growing up struggling to get our own identities and independence and once received that connected again in a way that seem virtuallie impossible to come in-between.
Nettan – I wish you all the best and I look forward to our time together in our paradise
in a couple of weeks together with mom and dad and our kids and hubbies.See you in a bit!
Glad midsommar!
Happy midsummer everyone!
I was surprised today with a very special gift from my sister in California. I just love it. It is a living locket from Origami Owl filled with special charms connecting us. It was a very precious gift with a lot of thought and heart. I will wear it with pride and joy and cherish it! Puss o kram <3 Nikki!
Today it is Midsummer day and even though I was overwhelmed with joy about the gift it still couldn’t cure the headache I woke up with. So, I am home relaxing while my family is enjoying the festivities with our friends hoping to feel better in time for the bbq tonight. After a long nap and some lunch I am actually coming alive again and I think there is hope for me tonight!
Be sure to honor the “little frogs” and other Swedish traditions! If you need some tips and tricks – look up Swedish Midsummer for Dummies on YouTube!
Studenten
Congratulations on your big day!
Ours kids are growing up. Last year was the first one in a very long row of or our friends kids to graduate from the “gymnasium” – grades 10 – 12. The next couple of years will be very busy with this kind of activities. I can’t wait!
I can still remember my graduation like is was yesterday. I had my American tassel attached to my Swedish student’s cap. With the year ’87 on. The student’s caps are so much more sophisticated nowadays and the price tag on them a completely different one too. They are a work of art and a small masterpiece of memories collected in a cap. Not one to spill red wine on or loose during the parties to follow.. lol
Best of luck – dear Isa – and I am so proud to know you! <3
Vasaloppet
The first Sunday of March it is time for Vasaloppet.
90km cross country skiing between Sälen and Mora. The best skiers manage to complete the race in little over 4 hrs. It is a very old tradition and something we are very proud of in my country. It is the longest ski race in the world and about 15000 skiers participate. This was the 90th time it was held.
We celebrated my dads birthday today with a nice lunch with coffee and cake for after’s at my parents.
It was just a perfect couple of hours and lovely to spend time together and make some plans for the summer.
Now I really would like to get rid of my cough and I can’t really understand why I had to get a cold too this weekend.. 🙁
