An exciting day today. Our ladies have managed to reach the final in soccer in the Olympics. Never happened before. Our team manager, Pia Sundhage, seems to know what she is doing – being a previous soccer player herself (in Hammarby among other teams) and also previous team manager to the American ladies soccer team and led them to two Olympic gold. So three straight medals for her as a coach in the Olympics. Wow. I would be extremely disappointed if our team didn’t get one of the very prestigious awards in sports here in Sweden next year. But, I guess other ladies have a good shot at one of those awards too – Sarah Sjöström for instance – who both broke a world record and achieved three medals in the Olympics on her own.
Our ladies didn’t win the gold medal. They won silver. And we are so extremely proud of them. The game was very even and we almost managed to make that last goal to go to extra time. But, Germany won, 2-1. Congratulations!
All fun things come to an end
Final day in paradise – tomorrow we are heading back home to the city. We have enjoyed a quiet day outdoors working on different projects. My husband has cleaned the new Weber grill and taken down the outdoor shower for the winter. I have cleaned all the windows and done some laundry. But we have also played a couple of games of “kubb” – my sister and I teamed up and did pretty good! This little fellow decided to join us and landed on one of the game parts.
Best ending of the day when we managed to beat the US in soccer and qualified for the semi finals. Amazing! Go girls! ??
Solen och vindarnas ö
Today it has been both sunny and quite windy outside and the island has really proven itself worthy of its nickname. It was a bit colder in the ocean this morning – it has been around 19-20C every day since we got here but today it was 18,5C. The waves was all the way up on the pier – it is quick fun to be in the water then! One has to be careful climbing the ladder though.
This afternoon we went over to my dads cousin and his family for coffee and cake. It was really nice to see them again – even though we live close here we never seem to get the time to go over there.
Tonight we managed to win our first medal this Olympics – a silver for Emma Johansson in the 136.9 km long bicycle race. Yeah!
