Olympic Games Sotji 2014

imageThe Olympic Games in Sotji has started. The 22nd winter games since the first one back in 1924 when it was held in Chamonix, France.

The opening ceremony was spectacular, as to be expected. The first winter games to be held in Russia – they have only hosted a summer game before.

Tretjak lit the olympic fire together with Rodnina. A goalie of imagerank and a figure skater queen got the honor. Lovely. They were given the torch from Karelin – the Greco-Roman wrestler – Karelin’s wrestling record is 887 wins and only two losses in his entire sport career. Try and beat that – if you can!

Now let’s hope our Swedish athletes win some victories and bring home lots of good memories and are proud to be part of the Olympic Games. I know we have a good team and I hope they will able to perform on the amazing level that got them to be part of our team.

May the best athlete win and the games begin!

World record

image

Tonight the whole family (well except my boys.. ) went to see the XL-galan in the Ericsson Globe Arena and what a night! A new world record on 3000m set by Dibaba, a new European record on 1500 m set by our own Aregawi and a new arena record on 200m set by the young Swedish runner Irene Ekelund. Great results over all! It is amazing to be part of so much joy and excitement!

Longing for paradise

image

The snow is melting away. It is rainy and foggy and dark. No fun at all. This time of year I want lots of snow and cold weather. Now I’m just longing for spring and summer – to get some sunlight and d-vitamins and regain energy.
Lots of fun things to look forward to in the next couple of days so I guess things are pretty good after all.

Hot stones

After a long day filled with work my neck was killing me so I treated myself 50 min of complete relaxation and recovery time.

Now I feel like a new person ready to face new challenges. The masseuse almost managed to fix my stiff neck that has been bothering me for weeks now. Maybe I will be able to sleep better tonight when the muscles are more relaxed.  What a great way to finish a hectic day!

Missed my bus by two minutes.. 28 min til the next one.. 🙁

Semla

image

Today my mom came over for a coffee in the afternoon so I treated us the first “semla” of the year. Actually we shared one since they come in two and my youngest came home.. lol. Probably for the best anyway.

Fishpie in the oven. Never done one before so I’m quite curious on how it will taste.

100-åringen..

imageA rainy Sunday with snow melting away.. what do you do? You go to the movies!

Unfortunately we were not alone there – it was chaos.  On top of all I tried to save some time by ordering the tickets on line and ended up getting tickets on the first row instead of the last..
So we had to go in early anyway and stand in line to get the tickets returned and buy new one. Puh.

Being there so early we decided to have lunch and then the boys played bowling for an hour while we did some shopping at Media Markt.
Finally it was time to meet up with the rest of the family and enjoy the movie – which we did! It was pretty funny but the book was better (as usually).

Mello -1

Here we go. The first part of the yearly song contest. 4 competitions and a second chance before the grand finale.  Two competitors out of eight straight to the finale each week. Two competitors to the second chance each week.  Hmmm.. what shall we vote for? I think I put my money on Yohio and Helena Paparizou tonight.

Since over 20 years we have watched this event together with my sister and another dear friend and their families. We have dinner and enjoy a lovely evening together. So the next 5 Saturdays to look forward to.

PS! Straight to finale :Yohio and Ellen Benediktson
Second chance : Linus Svenning and Helena Paparizou

The ship

image

I am fascinated by my city and it’s history. Like this building for instance.  It was built in 1898 and was originally a department store called KM Lundbergs. In 1902 the department store was remodeled and changed name to NK and moved to where it still is on Hamngatan.

The new lodgers was Nordstjernan – a Swedish familyowned investment company and shipowning business – and they redecorated the building to look like a big ship with a spar, observation post and figure heads.

The weather is really awful today with ice rain which gives us an icy and slippery road surface. I really hope it will be better soon.

Spinach

wpid-20131126_072949.jpgA real treat on a Thursday – fish fingers and stewed spinach.  Yum! My boys don’t eat it but me and my husband love it. It is very common that I cook a variety of things to choose from since we don’t like the same food in my family for different reasons. So tonight there were also pasta, mash and ham to choose from..

I can’t believe January has come to an end. February has a lot of fun to offer with the Olympics being the main reason. Melodifestivalen starts off on Saturday and will keep us busy the next month and a half! Fun!

Groceries

image

I did good today and went grocery shopping after work. It always takes a bit extra encouragement for me to go for some reason. 1800sek later and a car full of food and other things I came back home. Then comes the real challenge – to carry everything inside and unpack.
Made burgers and boiled potatoes with gravy for dinner. After that I baked bread and now some corner-time to finish off the day. Might treat myself a rye sandwich with my evening tea!
