Rainy day

A rainy day in paradise. It started shortly after our morning swim and it has been raining on and off all day with some glimpse of sun here and there. The ocean was almost 18C this morning and you could clearly feel the difference. Perfect. One or two more degrees would be amazing.

Since we knew in advance it would rain today we had planned an indoor-dinner so I made a casserole of pork with mushrooms, sun-dried tomatoes, chives and chili/bell pepper creme fraiche served with rice and dry roasted onions. It turned out pretty good! My oldest niece and her friend are arriving with the late bus so I will meet them tomorrow.

Kårehamn

Saturday again. Can’t believe we’ve been here a whole week already. We decided to do something nice for lunch and went over to Kårehamn Fish and Sea restaurant together with my uncle. My dad and I enjoyed their famous fish-soup, mom, P and C chose other fish dishes while the boys chose burgers. The restaurant was a bit crowded with a lot of families with children so it wasn’t as nice as we’d hoped, but I loved the soup.

This afternoon my sister, her husband and youngest arrived in time for dinner and we bbq pork filet and sat outside. After dinner we greeted my brother-in-law with a birthday present and a cake. A lovely day and tomorrow two more will arrive – my oldest niece and a friend of hers.

Dinner guests

Friday already and time to get some new groceries. A lot needed to fill up the fridge for the next couple of days with guests coming over.

First out my parents-in-law together with my husbands aunt and great aunt who came over for an afternoon coffee and treated us a home-made cake. They also stayed for dinner and we bbq sirloin steak with oven baked potatoes. A lovely visit and a nice tradition that I hope we can keep up!

Sunny day

A lazy sunny day. Perfect to regain some energy. I did vacuum our house but that was about it. The ocean looked like a mirror this morning but still only about 17 C. But gorgeous.

Tonight we have bbq trout for dinner and leftover for the non-fish-eating part of the family. We had stewed spinach with the fish and boiled potatoes. One more day before the rest of the troops join us and we will be a full house for a while – with some extra guests too. Just like we want it!

Circus

A lovely day with no rain. Not very hot though but sunny. After our morning routine with dip in the ocean and breakfast we went to the grocery store to play the lottery and send off a package. My husband put up the last piece of the cornice missing in the bathroom – yeah – work finally completed! We also put up the airer and tried it with a load of wash and it worked just fine!

Tonight my parents and oldest son went to the Cirkus Olympia which comes to our paradise one evening every summer. They enjoyed the show. When they got back we had some strawberries and a cup of tea while the sun set. Perfect ending of a perfect day.

Visit in town

The day started out quite nice with our traditional morning swim before breakfast. 2,5C warmer in the ocean than in the air. Still cold though.

Then me and my husband drove down to Kalmar to run some errands and on our way there it started to rain. It’s been raining off and on all day since. We managed to accomplish almost everything we had set out to do which was great.

A quiet evening watching TV together ended a productive day. We skipped the “Kvarnfesten” since it was raining cats and dogs. I wonder if they had any visitors? Let’s hope it will be less rain tomorrow so maybe we can put up the new outdoor airer we bought to hang dry our laundry on.

First day of vacation

Monday and first official day of vacation. Morning swim at 08.00 followed by breakfast. Then the day has gone by in a slow pace doing little things here and there. We went grocery shopping but other than that we’ve just taken it easy. BBQ some meat tonight but sat indoor since it has been quite windy outside with almost 10m/sec in the wind during the afternoon.

This photo was taken last night – tonight it’s been quite cloudy so no sunset to enjoy.

Hammock with a view

A long lazy day starting with a dip in the ocean at 08.00 AM. Brrr. A nice breakfast and then some time outside doing absolutely nothing but enjoying my hammock, coffee and the view. We went for a 3k walk in the afternoon which was lovely in the sunny weather. Another dip in the ocean. Now we have taken out the bbq and will fire it up for a nice pork filet dinner while waiting for the sun to set. A perfect day in every way. Now the prognosis says it will be a bit rainy for a few days, but that’s ok too.

The flag is up celebrating our crown princess who turns 42 years old today. Big celebrations here on Öland since the royal family has their summer residence here and spend the summers here. Going to watch the celebrations on tv tonight.

Made it

First day of our vacation – or technically I guess the first day will be after the weekend – but it felt so nice to wake up this morning knowing that we have a lot of time off. After breakfast we packed the car and drove down to our paradise – it took a about 7 hrs due to traffic and breaks. Arrived in time for dinner and now we’ve just relaxed and crashed for a bit before it is time to hug the pillow. No amazing sunset tonight but great weather with no wind. I hope I can sleep good tonight and start to regain some new energy. Be safe!

At last

Work week completed. I treated myself some sushi for lunch which has become sort of a tradition the last day before vacation. It is not something we eat down in our paradise – not even sure where to get it down there.

It started to rain early afternoon and I got quite soaked going home since I hadn’t brought a raincoat with me for work. Oh well. It’s just water. Picked up a pork filet on my way home which I will prepare for dinner tonight. Now some time off from work to look forward to. Let the vacation begin!
