New week – new challenges. Monday started with sunshine and as the day went by it started to rain more and more. Now it’s really dark outside and I expect more bad weather during the night.
We have re-arranged my schedule this week so I will start with two long days – continue with two short days and end with a semi-long/short day. I am trying my best to adjust my life and family to my new hours but I hope I can go back to my normal hours soon. This week I will hopefully not work that many extra hours, which would be great if it’s true. Then I have some well-deserved vacation to look forward to – starting next Sunday!
Election day
Important day today with the election. All four of us used our constitutional right (and duty) and voted. Now we have a long day ahead before they can start counting the votes and I guess sometime in the next day or two we will know for sure the result.
We met up with our travel companions for our upcoming trip and made the last preparations. Can’t believe the trip is finally happening! So much fun!
Family day
Dad turned 80 years old in March and we gave hime a family day together but wanted to wait a bit to make sure everyone could make it. We also included our friend L in the present who turned 60 in August. And finally the day arrived! We met up at the Central Station in Stockholm and took the regular train to Läggesta where we got off and walked over to the old railway museum which has a steam train that runs a few time a day over to Mariefred. It was great fun – a short trip but with all the ingredients included.
In Mariefred we started with a lunch as the sky opened and treated us a terrible rainfall with hale and lightning.. Haha not what we had in mind! But, it stopped after a little while and we could continue enjoying our day. A tour of the Gripsholm Castle and then the steam boat Mariefred S/S back to the city again. We had made reservations on the boat for dinner and they had given us our own dining room which was great! So we sat there and enjoyed our steamboat steaks as we watched the sun set.
A great day and I think my dad and L enjoyed their present. And extra fun that all eleven of us could come along!
Never got a chance to say goodbye
Another week came to an end. This one with a special ending. My mom and I attended my best friend’s mom’s funeral. It was a lovely ceremony held in our local church. I think my friend was happy with the arrangements so that was good.
They had chosen the old Swedish hymn “Blott en dag ” as a prelude and I just love that song. So very sad and pretty. I googled it to see if it has been translated and it turns out that a Swedish country-singer – Don Redmon (Andreas Johansson) – has recorded it. His version is called “Never got a chance to say goodbye” and it is actually quite good. I’ve added it to my Spotify-list for now.
Appointment
Didn’t have to rush off to work this morning since my son had an appointment with his doctor and wanted me to come along. He had a class first so while I waited for him I had a minute to sit down and enjoy a morning treat at the café. Lovely.
Then off to work and had the on-call duty for the fourth time in a row this week. But, tomorrow I’m getting off by lunchtime since I have a funeral to attend.
Morning fog
What a gorgeous sunrise this morning. The area was covered in fog and it looked so pretty with the sun. Lovely. Not too chilly either.
Another long day at work but a good day. Had a big lunch with a very delicious pasta which was just what I needed. And chicken w/ rise for dinner. Coffee and a treat for afters. Because I’m worth it..
Full house
What a day! For the first time in I don’t know how long we had a full house at work. No one missing except the person who works when I’m not there – our very valuable law-student.
10 hrs later I was ready to go back home and now I’ve crashed in my corner. Enjoyed an omelette filled with stewed mushrooms. Mmm. Now I’m going to have a cup of coffee and watch tonights episode of “Swedish Idol” while I’m doing laundry and washing dishes. Busy busy ..
Monday treat
Whoaaa what a day. I have talked the entire day – or so it felt anyway – to introduce my new co-worker to our job. Haven’t been this tired in a while.
After work I met up with my husband to look at a possible site for his birthday-do. So tricky to find something good and affordable but this might be a good choice. Great.
When we got home my parents had paid us a visit and left these goodies on our doorstep. Lovely. Thank you!
Sun on a Sunday
A lovely day with sunshine and +21C. Perfect day to change water in our SPA. With the smart water pump it’s emptied in no-time. Then a good clean before it’s time to re-fill. Finished in a couple of hours!
We’ve also taken down a big branch from our apple tree which had died. And picked a zillion more apples and given some away to neighbors. Baked another apple pie – love my new recipe!
Tonight we’ve picked up my parents and a friend from the ferry back from Finland. My youngest is at the movies with a friend and my oldest is with his friends playing board games. So now some sofa-time with a piece of the newly baked apple pie and the first episode of the new season of “Ozark”.
Garden
Today we have worked in our garden – picked up the 500 apples on the ground and took them to the waste disposal site since they were way too many but also too ruined to be used to anything. Also, we have like 2000 more apples left on the tree and our second tree is also ready to start harvesting from. Don’t know about you but I am kind of tired of apples now. Lol.
We also cut down our rose hip bush so now I look like I’ve been fighting with a large cat. Lol. It almost felt like it at the time – I hate cutting this bush but it needs doing every year. And for some reason it has been my job. But this year my husband helped some.
Second day of the Finnkampen came to an end. Next year it will be in Stockholm again (hopefully) and I might be able to see it live. Found my parents in the ad for the event.. 🙂
