Last day to enjoy a dip in the ocean. 22,5C and waves so I didn’t swim my 100m today . It was a good morning and we were packed and on the road at 10 past 10 and arrived safely back home at 4.45 PM.
The sunset from last night was amazing. I took this shot standing on the side of our small plot of potatoes. In my yellow dress which I have lived in this summer. With my bikini under. Ready to go swimming. The bubble we’ve lived in the last couple of weeks has been amazing. I really wanted to remain in it for another couple of weeks. But reality calls and I feel ready for the fall. I’m glad I have another week off before it’s time to go back to work though. Still have a few things I want to get done.
I hope my sister and our two youngest will have another amazing couple of days in our paradise and a safe trip home next week. I’m glad they get some extra days down there together!
Packing day
Last full day and time to pack and prepare for the winter. We have put away outdoor furniture, cleaned and put away the grill, emptied the water heater tank and taken down the shower, done some laundry and started to pack our things to bring back home. It’s been a very windy day today – early this morning there was a thunder storm with a lot of big flashes of lightning crossing the sky and rain to follow. Now tonight we have rewarded our hard work today with “kroppkakor” from Eva’s. It’s a local dish made of potatoes and pork. Mmm.
One last sunset to enjoy while watching the waves which almost reaches up to the top of the bathing jetty. It’s like the weather is helping us adjusting to the thought of going back to the real world again.
One more ..
Summer is coming closer to an end. Today my oldest niece took the bus back to the city. Vacation over. On Saturday four more is leaving and next Wednesday the last three is closing our summer paradise for now.
We have been busy bees today. Building and painting and ticking off chores on our list. Used our grill for the last time tonight – chicken and smoked pork sausage. Served with chive stewed potatoes. Yum! Now it’s time to clean the grill and put it away. Not so fun. But necessary.
Mid week
Day 19 in our paradise and so far we haven’t missed our morning dip in the ocean. Still a couple of more days to enjoy before it’s time to head back to the city.
It’s been above 30C again today. We don’t have any energy to do hardly anything at all. No long walks anyway. I have been swimming 100m a couple of times though – not very long, I know, but with the waves it’s hard.
We put these lovely steaks on the bbq tonight and as we sat down to eat it started to rain. Typical. We put up the sunshades and stayed outside and finished our meal before we went back indoors. Now I’m cuddled up in my corner to enjoy the European Championships in track & field. Go Sweden!
Oh – and an extra thought to my friend who lost her mother today. Big hug!
Lazy day
A perfect day. A bit of wind and not too hot outside. 22-24C in the ocean. No algae. Clear water. Even swam 100m (my sister swims a lot longer.. ) but with a little waves it is enough for me.
Have had a lazy day in the sun and I am actually getting a tan for the first time in ages. Feels great to have a summer with not having to paint a house – lol. I don’t mind the work but with this heat it would have been too much for us to handle. Made a wok with the left-overs (modern version of “pyttipanna”) and now we have crashed in our corners with some Tuesday-treats waiting for the “Allsång” to start on TV.
Life is good!
Pappa Blå
It was very windy last night and still windy this morning. Great waves to play in for the morning dip in the ocean!
Once per year have dinner at this restaurant in Borgholm called “Pappa Blå”. My sister is in love with their baby ribs with fries and cold slaw.
Us girls took a head start and left early to the city for some shopping and I actually bought a few things. A pair of shorts, a top and a shirt. Wow. I never find anything and these things were on sale too. Perfect.
Guests
Today we had special guests over for afternoon coffee. They treated us a cake and we sat outside but it was very windy today. And the wind came straight in from the ocean so we didn’t have any place to get away from the wind unless we sat indoor. After the coffee we hid in the arbor which was nice and chatted for a while.
They stayed for dinner and we decided to defy the weather once more since it was quite warm and sunny despite the wind and sat outside again. We had to put extra weights in the corners of the table cloths – haha. We bbq pork filet wrapped in bacon and made oven baked potatoes. Served with veggies and different sauces. After dinner they signed out guestbook and headed back down to Kalmar.
Tonight we played a game of Trivial Pursuit before it was time to hug the pillow.
Home made with love
New record this morning – water temperature up to amazing 24,9 C at 08.00 AM. But a lot of waves prevented me from my morning swim.
After lunch half of the family went up to the northern part of Öland for a shopping tour while I stayed at home with three of the youngsters for a lazy afternoon. Well – I did make a half a batch of buns which turned out great, if I may say so. Half of them filled with cinnamon and half with vanilla. All of them filled with butter and caster sugar. And covered with pearl sugar. And cooking with a view like this makes the hard work quite pleasant. I think they will be all gone before bedtime.
BBQ chicken tonight. 29C in the shade and 28C indoors. Hmm.. I think we will sit outside anyway since it is a bit windy and nice with the breeze. Have a great Saturday everyone!
Friday
This morning it was quite windy outside and not so warm indoors as it has been. Lovely. The ocean was 1,5 degrees warmer than the air – 23,9 vs. 21,4. Strange. During the day it got really warm again and it was almost 26C in the ocean. Amazing. Not refreshing hardly at all.
We went up to Löttorp for the groceries today and tonight we are going to bbq pork filet and corn on the cob. Serve it with fries and red onions. And sauce of various sorts. Yum! Maybe enjoy a glass of rosé or two since it’s Friday!
Karin
Today we had another names-day in the family – my sister and oldest niece. So flag up! We decided to do something fun but also useful so after lunch we drove down to Kalmar for some shopping. After we had bought most of the things on the list (a fan was no-where to be found) we went into the center of the city for dinner. We found a nice Italian place and sat outside for our meal.
M didn’t join us this afternoon – he had to study – so we didn’t want to stay too late in town. When we came back we went for an evening swim as the sun set and tonight we were treated a great one.
