Vacation this year seemed very very far off but finally the day arrived and we could head down to our paradise. It rained a bit in town as we packed the car but stopped almost right away.
Hardly no traffic and the drive went quite smoothly. A quite long swim in the ocean and then coffee outside with strawberries and a chocolate cake my mother had baked. Life is good!
We defied the weather Gods and bbq the dinner tonight. My sister said it would rain if we took our the barbecue but so far so good. It is still almost 30C and 8.30 PM. I hope we can sleep tonight – and especially my boys who are used to air-conditioning in their rooms. No such luxury here, I’m afraid.
Made it!
Finally a day off. At home. With my boys. First a quiet breakfast watching one of my favorite movies – “The help” (Niceville). Then I took my boys with me to run some errands. Grocery shopping, going to the recycling station, making lunch for the boys, packing, doing laundry. Back to normal again.
It’s been over 30C here today and we have stayed indoors and kept the back door closed to not let the heat inside. I can’t wait to get close to the ocean and feel some fresh air. My flue is better but I am not 100% recovered yet. But, there is hope.
Almost..
.. time to clock out from work and enjoy a (well deserved) vacation. Last day completed and tomorrow I am officially on holiday! Yeah!
So dreadful with all of the fires that are destroying our country right now and depriving people their homes. It is so very dry due to the extreme heat and lack of rain so the fires have plenty of opportunity to spread.
Crashed in my corner now and not going anywhere for a while. My voice is slowly returning but I am still not able to talk for long or sing any notes whatsoever. My eyes are not completely recovered but they look much better and don’t bother me so much anymore. One step at a time.
Heat record
Another day with degrees above 30C in town. Puh. Only me and two other colleagues at work today. Fewer and fewer each day. Next week I don’t think anyone will be at the office besides our student who works extra.
Shrimp caesar sallad for lunch and another sallad for dinner. Too warm outside to eat.
Another semi-quiet day. My throat feels slightly better so I dared to speak some today. But, I have to be careful or I’ll start coughing. Good thing it’s so quiet at work – makes it much easier to be silent.
Struggle
It’s been an extremely hot week in the city. Thank God for air conditioning! Our office is just perfect. I went to work today but I am not allowed to speak for a few days so that should be interesting. But I have a lot of work to do which doesn’t require me speaking so I went any way since I don’t have a fever. And my cough is sort of under control (even though I have moments here and there when I’m gasping for breath). The eye drops seem to be working, which is great. But it is so very hard to be completely quiet for a whole day!
It is so very warm outside – feels like walking in a hairdryer and it’s not nice. The bus-ride was absolutely unbearable.
Out of voice
Can’t speak hardly at all. Sore throat. And running eyes. Needed a visit to the doctors tonight but there were no bacterias in my throat so no penicillin needed. Good.
I do however have vocal cord inflammation and also an eye infection. So eye drops and silence for a few days. The silence-part will be easy since I am almost completely out of voice anyway. And I am not to drink warm things for a few days either – no hot tea or coffee. So I’m having some ice-cream and a cider instead. I hope tonight will be better than last night. I hate not being able to sleep.
France ?? vs Croatia ?? ⚽️
Woke up in our second paradise after having a cough-free night but my left eye is bothering me instead. The ocean was filled with algae so no morning swim today. The ship was still there when we woke up though but packed up and left during the day.
It’s been over 30C today – not degrees we are used to in this country. Everyone have been a bit miserable. As the day went by it got a bit windy which was great since the algae disappeared and we could go into the ocean for a bit. I didn’t though for various reasons.
Thank you for a wonderful weekend with great food and company! And great weather! Just wished I would have felt better and I hope I didn’t share my germs with anyone else.
Time to cheer on Croatia vs. France in the world cup final!
Weekend in our second paradise
A fantastic weekend in our second paradise to enjoy together with my sister and her family. My father-in-law picked us up around noon and we all went out just in time for lunch by the water. This amazing ship visited our neighbors over night and “parked” their ship right outside our property. Too bad the photo is a bit blurry.
My cold is getting worse by the day and I was hoping it would have reached its peak by now, but clearly not. Coughed through the night between Friday-Saturday but I haven’t had any fever all week and felt pretty ok during the days. But, no sitting in the sun or going into the ocean for me this weekend. Relax in the shade is probably better for my chances of recovering sooner rather than later.
Belgium managed to defeat England and take home the bronze game. And we watched the celebrations of our crown princess on tv – can’t remember the last time I didn’t watch it from Öland. Late vacation this year.
Second down
Friday again and second week down out of three. Still filling my days but definitely need to spread out the tasks a bit and no need to rush through things as I was last week.
Tried something new for lunch – a hot tuna sallad. The fish was lovely but the sallad was a bit too spicy for my tasting. But, very well prepared!
Tonight we went to Heron with my oldest niece and brother-in-law. My sister had guests over so they needed to stay away for a bit. So we went to see the “Han Solo”-movie. Like a pre-StarWars story. Not as good as we had hoped for, but we enjoyed it. After the movie we went to O’Learys for a late dinner. Unfortunately my cold is getting worse by the day instead of getting better. No fever though. Just an irritating cough and runny nose. With some luck it will be over by Monday.
Yakiniku
It is so hard to come up with ideas of what to eat for dinner. And especially now when I get home so late everyday and don’t have any energy left. So, today I wanted to pick up grilled chicken for dinner but I couldn’t find any anywhere so I ended up with minute steak instead and made a yakiniku. It turned out really nice and we haven’t had it in a long time so it was a good choice, I guess.
I have been feeling a bit poorly this week but it has been a very hectic week and also very warm so it’s hard to tell what depends on what. Hopefully I will feel better soon – want to be able to enjoy the sunshine and maybe the ocean this weekend when we are going out to our second paradise for a few days.
