This year’s Olympics turned out to be the best winter olympics for Sweden ever. Even though we missed our chances on several medals that we had high hopes in receiving.
We missed the last couple of days since we were away for the weekend, but we followed it the best we could via the results on the way.
A great weekend to close up the competitions –
Gold – Ebba Andersson – 50k, cross country
Gold – Anna Hasselborg, Sara McManus, Agnes Knochenhauer, Sofia Scharback, Johanna Heldin – curling
Bronze – Sandra Näslund – women’s ski crossThe Swedish team managed to get 8 gold, 6 silver and 4 bronze. Amazing!
Sports
Another couple of days filled with fun sports and more medals to Sweden!
Our pride and joy managed to juggle thru the eight final vs. Lettland yesterday and tonight they are facing the US in the quarter final. Unfortunately, the US won 2-1, but it had to go to overtime to win!
Tonight our Hammarby ladies are playing the second game in the best-of-two quarter final in UEFA Women’s Europa Cup. We won the away game 0-1 so I have high hopes that we will win tonight too. Me and my parents will go and cheer them on here at 3Arena. AND our ladies won! After overtime and penalty shootout. Fun! Semi here we come!
Gold – Jonna Sundling, Maja Dahlqvist – women’s team sprint, cross country
Silver – Linn Gestblom, Anna Magnusson, Elvira Öberg, Hanna Öberg – women’s relay biathlon
Bronze – Anna Swenn Larsson – slalom
Bronze – Viktor Brandt, Jesper Nelin, Martin Ponsiluoma, Sebastian Samuelsson – men’s relay, biathlon
Another couple of medals!
Never mind the lovely sunny day – I was stuck in front of the tv cheering on our Swedish athletes and their great achievements (and some failures). One gold and one silver today and one silver yesterday (to our relay-team in cross country skiing). Yeah!
- Gold – Martin Ponsiluoma – biathlon pursuit 12.5k
- Silver – Linn Svahn, Ebba Andersson, Frida Karlsson, Jonna Sundling – women’s 4 x 7.5k relay
Silver – Sara Hector – gigant slalomMade a chili con carne for lunch and at the same time prepared a lasagna for dinner. Perfect! Hubby went out running today – as he does almost every day – but I didn’t really do anything useful besides getting food ready for the troops.
Two more..
A long Thursday with quite a hectic schedule. Didn’t have time to go out for lunch but kind colleagues picked up some take away so we could eat at the office. Nice. When I got home my hubby had made cod with spinach for dinner for us – mmm.
Now some corner time enjoying cheese, crackers and a cup of tea while watching our ladies play a game of curling in their group play. Our guys haven’t started so good unfortunately with two losses. Bummer. But our cross country skiers managed to bring back another gold and silver medal today. Yeah!
- Gold – Frida Karlsson, 10 k freestyle
- Silver – Ebba Andersson, 10 k freestyle
Four more medals!
A fun day for our competitors with a great triple in the women’s sprint in cross country skiing. Yeah! We were able to watch it during our lunch break at work and all of us colleagues could cheer together. Fun!
Then tonight another gold medal in the mixed curling team when Sweden was facing the US. Yeah! Nerve-racking!
Gold – Rasmus Wranå / Isabella Wranå – Mixed Double Curling
Gold – Linn Svahn – Women’s sprint
Silver – Jonna Sundling – Women’s sprint
Bronze – Maja Dahlqvist – Women’s sprint
First medals
Our first couple of medals in this Olympics was achieved yesterday with a gold and a silver in the women’s 20k skiathlon. Yeah.
Today I have enjoyed watching the mixed team in curling and their struggles to reach the final rounds. The mixed biathlon relay was a disappointment as well as the men’s 20k skiathlon where our biggest hope fell and broke his ski stick.
This afternoon our ladies are playing their third game in the ice hockey tournament. So far two wins. Let’s hope they continue the winning streak.
- Gold – Frida Karlsson, 20k skiathlon
- Silver – Ebba Andersson, 20 k skiathlon
Olympics 2026 Milan & Cortina
Time for the big opening ceremony for the winter Olympics in Milano & Cortina, Italy. Tucked in my corner for 2-3 hrs of culture and sports in this grand opening. Then 2 weeks of fun sports – cheering on our Swedish athletes in various sport events.
Sweden has 110 participants representing our country in 9 different sports (48 of those are part of either the women or men’s hockey team). The games started a few days ago with the mixed curling (so far 2 wins and 3 losses) and the women’s hockey (won their first game).
The grand finale takes place on February 22nd – when we are on our way back from our weekend away to Salzburg.
Let the fun begin!
