Midsummer Day

Midsummer day – started with a very tired family and pouring rain. But, we decided to get our stuff together and imagego out to our second paradise anyway. And we didn’t regret it. It was raining off and on half the day, but then the sun came out and it was a very good day after all.

We have enjoyed good food and good company all day. Now we are back home again, tucked in our corners waiting for the soccer game to start. Our ladies managed to wiggle through the first round in the world championships in soccer and are now in the 1/8 final. Facing Germany which team is definitely going for gold. Fingers crossed!

Midsummer Eve

This must be the worst midsummer in ages – if you talk about the weather. It was raining all day long – starting already Thursday eve and it only stopped for an hour here and there.

imageSo, we spent the entire day with our amazing group of friends – everyone being a trooper and tried to put on a brave face with the lack of sunshine. We enjoyed our pickled herring lunch – indoor this year – extremely crowded but with love there is room. Then we all went outside and played the prepared pentathlon (or how many parts there were) divided up in teams. My team tried hard but probably ended up last. Oh well.

When it got closer to dinner we switched house and ended the evening with a great bbq sitting outside in a tent while the rain was still pouring down. The infra-red heaters helped us keep warm along with blankets and great company.

Thank you for making a rainy day great!

May it be

I have been listening to an old album a lot lately – the greatest imagehits from Enya. One of the songs “May it be” is really good for the soul – gives me great peace of mind.

Tomorrow it is midsummer here in Sweden and that is, for some reason, often a very rainy day. Today we got a sneak preview to what may come and it’s been raining off and on all day.

A great lunch with a great friend managed to give the day some sunshine (in our hearts anyway). Perfect break in our hectic lives.

Midweek

My favorite day. Half way through the week. Great sunny start of the day with my morning walk. Now a lovely afternoon with mimagey kids and nieces. Listening to their laughters in the garden. Treating them a big bowl of fresh strawberries with ice-cream. Being a good mom and auntie.

Good for the soul and mind.

Smörgåsbord

Every year we have a “smörgåsbord” at work the week of Midsummer and this year was no different.

A treat of early potatoes with dill, three types of pickled herring, imagesour cream, red onions, chives, meatballs, beetroot sallad, raw spiced salmon, smoked salmon, salmon sauce, egg halves filled with egg yolk mixed with caviar, boiled eggs and a sallad. Fresh strawberries, cherries and vanilla ice-cream to complete the lunch.

And guess what.. we have plenty of leftovers to enjoy tomorrow.. Lovely!

My back is killing me today. Took a hot bath after work and it helped somewhat. I’m longing for a nice massage. That would make my day.

New royal baby!

More fun news from our royal family. HRH Princess Madeleine gave birth to her second baby today – a imagelittle prince! She was very pregnant at her brothers wedding a few days ago – I guess all that partying might have started things.. Apparently both mother and baby are doing fine.

It’s midsummer on Friday. Time flies. Four more weeks to work before the vacation starts. I hope we will get a fantastic summer with a lot of sunshine and time to relax and have fun. We have a very busy year ahead which will require a lot from us so we need to gather all the energy and strength we can.

Rain rain rain

A year ago I posted “Empty” when Brasse Brännström – a great 11428949_823359587755051_6714905607814811005_nSwedish actor who has been a very big part of my generations’ childhood – had died the day before. Yesterday, the other half of this amazing duo passed away – Magnus Härenstam, at the age of 73.

When I grew up their children program “Fem myror..” was a huge success. In this show Eva Remaeus was also part. She sadly passed away already back in 1993, way too early, at the age of 42.

Thank you, Magnus, for all the great memories and smiles you have given me! An era has come to an end. I’m sure heaven will be a fun place to be with these three there!

Royal wedding

image

What a special day – the sun has been shining all day, it’s been lovely outside. A great day for a royal wedding with procession through the city showing off our gorgeous city and of course the newly weds.

Our prince Carl Philip married his Sofia and we have a new princess in Sweden. image

We have been busy bees all day – cleaning the house and
getting things done outside. We ended the day with a bbq outside – grilling great sirloin steak and corn on the cob.

Now I will enjoy a glass of red and look at all the interviews and comments from the wedding.

Summer

imageFredagsmys-time!

I have had an extremely hectic day but got most of my efforts done – so it feels extra nice to relax in my corner for a bit. Today it has been really warm outside – 75F / 25C – and we enjoyed dinner outside.

My youngest is away tonight to play computer games all night with his friends. My oldest had his last day of school before summer break – so now both the boys are off the next 10 weeks. Officially y e a l o u s ! ! !

Take away

A special day – one son started his summer holiday and had the whole day to himself – the other son starts his summer break imageafter tomorrow. Since both me and my husband worked long days today we treated the family a take away pizza for dinner. Or actually three pizzas and one thai wok. We sat outside and enjoyed our dinner – but it was a bit chilly so we didn’t stay out for long. But, the weather these past couple of days has been gorgeous. Haven’t even worn a jacket to work! And I’ve been a good girl and taken several walks this week.
