We were supposed to be here at ours tonight, but both the boys are having a cold so we cancelled the dinner invitation. Bummer. But, hopefully we can see everyone next weekend when the grand finale takes place. And hopefully none of our guests Wednesday eve caught any of the bugs either.

Spa
Friday already. This week went by really quick. Can’t believe it’s been a whole week since we drove out to the airport for our weekend get-away.
Today it was my colleague’s turn to have Friday off and get a weekend get-away to see her family. When she is not at the office – I have sushi for lunch. Lol. Today was no different.
Managed to get off a bit early since it is a sports-holiday for the schools and almost everyone is on vacation. Today we were 4-5 people at the office and not much to do. But, I had a busy start and then a slower mid-day.
Tonight me and hubby have enjoyed the spa for a bit. Perfect with no wind, snow or rain to bother us. Just a star-lit sky and nice and cold outside and the lovely warm spa.
Snow is melting
Today it was slightly warmer outside so the snow has started melting which has resulted in a challenge walking on the streets. Hopefully the water will be gone soon – preferably before it gets cold again and it all turns into ice.
My husband had prepared dinner tonight when I got home. Ovenbaked chicken with fries. Nice. Now some corner time which watching another couple of episodes of “Lincoln Lawyer” on Netflix. A new season has just started.
Twenty-six
Happy birthday, dearest youngest son! Can’t believe you are already 26 years old – time flies.
Your choice of birthday cake is always a princess cake. They didn’t have a blueberry one today, so I bought a traditional green one instead.
Tonight the family came over to greet him and we had a nice evening together. The good thing about ordering things online is that he will get more presents in a day or two. Lol. Now he is equipped with new things to wear and things to do. Thank you everyone!
Fish & chips
A very snowy start of the day with degrees around 0C which meant the streets got very wet really quick. And when it was time to get back home from work, it was several degrees below 0C and ice was covering the streets instead of water. Awful.
We went to get some fish & chips for lunch today, but we were both a bit disappointed. The portion was very small and the sauces were not what we had hoped. Bummer.
Tonight our youngest made us his pasta bolognese dinner. Mmm. Now some corner time before it is time to hug our pillows.
Wrapping up the Olympics
This year’s Olympics turned out to be the best winter olympics for Sweden ever. Even though we missed our chances on several medals that we had high hopes in receiving.
We missed the last couple of days since we were away for the weekend, but we followed it the best we could via the results on the way.
A great weekend to close up the competitions –
Gold – Ebba Andersson – 50k, cross country
Gold – Anna Hasselborg, Sara McManus, Agnes Knochenhauer, Sofia Scharback, Johanna Heldin – curling
Bronze – Sandra Näslund – women’s ski crossThe Swedish team managed to get 8 gold, 6 silver and 4 bronze. Amazing!
Castle of the month – Mirabell Palace, Salzburg
Since we spent the weekend in Salzburg, Austria, we chose the castle of the month of February to be the Mirabell Palace.
The archbishop Raitenau built the castle in 1606 and it was initially named Schloss Altenau. His successor Mark Sittich gave the palace its current name from Italian: mirabile, bella: “amazing”, “wonderful”.
The palace is, together with its garden, listed a cultural heritage and part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The Marble Hall in the palace hosts concerts and venues. It is also a popular location for weddings.
The palace is now owned by the city of Salzburg and is being used as the mayor’s office and several municipal departments. It is situated right by the Salzach river and the Hohensalzburg Fortress is overlooking it from the hill.
Hohensalzburg
Another rainy day – we’ve had the worst luck regarding both the weather and transportation so far. Oh well.
We had the whole day to enjoy before it was time to go to the airport. So, we walked back to the Old Town. We bought tickets to take the Festungs Bahn up the mountain to see the Hohensalzburg Fortress. The tickets also included entrances to the museums and viewpoints. We saw the puppet string museum, an exhibition from the salt mines and the fortress museum. And a stunning 360 view of Salzburg.
We had a nice pasta lunch and also picked up some Mozart Kugeln to bring back home. Walked up another hill to have a different overlook of the city – amazing – and then finally treated ourselves to cake from Fürst Bakery.
The trip back went without any problems – just a few minutes delays here and there. Back at home before midnight after another day with 20.000 steps. Puh. But, we’ve had a great time away!
Salzburg
A rainy day but we decided to go out for a nice walk to see the city. We walked over to the Mirabell Palace, saw the orangerie and the park. Then walked over the Salzach River and took a stroll in the Old Town. We had went on an audio-tour at the house where Mozart was born and raised. Then we needed to sit down for a bit so we found an authentic Austrian restaurant with good reviews and had a gulasch with knödel. Mmm.
After a short rest at out hotel we walked back to the Old Town and met up with an old friend from my time as an exchange student who lives in Salzburg with her family. It was so nice to see her and we had a great walk through memory lane. After a while we decided to go back to her house and we could see her husband and daughter and chat some more.
We ended the day having a schnitzel at a restaurant in the Old Town my friend recommended. With an apfel strudel for afters. 20.000 steps later we were ready for an early night following the Melodifestivalen from our phones back at the hotel.
Mello – 4
Tonight the competition takes place in Malmö. We are not going to be able to watch this one either since we are away on a weekend-trip to Salzburg. Fun!
So, we will give this round too a miss. The contestants tonight are:

2. Timo Räisänen – Ingenting är efter oss
3. Meira Omar – Dooset Daram – run-off vote
