I signed up for several challenges for August via my Garmin app and one of the challenges was to walk 300,000 steps in August. As we got closer to August 31st it felt that reaching this goal would be nearly impossible but I was determined to make it. Said and done. These last couple of days I have walked and walked and walked and FINALLY I made it. Puh. So proud of myself!
Now – I’m rewarding myself with some extra corner time to rest my tired body and cheer on our green and white heroes hoping they will bring home three points. And they did win with the clear 4-0!!! Finally! We needed that win. Now there’s a two week break and a lot of players will transfer, some of our players will too. But new ones on the way in. Fingers crossed they have sold and bought the right players.
Castle of the month – Steninge
Our choice for castle of the month in August is Steninge Castle in Sigtuna close to Märsta. Count Karl Gyllenstierna built the castle in 1694-1698 and it was designed by Tessin.
Today it is a privately owned estate but the park is open for the public. Next to the castle is a house called Stenladan which was built back in 1873. It has a restaurant, café, art gallery and shops and is overlooking the park.
We had a lovely stroll around the park and enjoyed a nice “fika” at the Stenladan. I chose a delicious oreo-cheescake and hubby a raspberry crumble.
Afterwork
Today we had an afterwork event for our student who has been with us thru his whole legal education. Four years – a long time. So, we had a small get-together to show him our appreciation and wish him luck with next challenges.
When I got home this lovely bouquet of roses was waiting for me from my hubby. That made me happy and was very nice of him. He was away to pick up some pizza for dinner – so now I’m fed, courted and ready for an evening in my corner and a whole weekend to enjoy. After these past two weekend filled with fun things to do, this one is not. We might go to our castle-of-the-month tomorrow though.
23
Today our youngest niece turns 23 and we were all invited to her home to celebrate!
She had baked – carrot cake, cupcakes and a sponge cake – and it was delicious! Yum!
It was her first time inviting the family over for celebrations since they moved in to their apartment so that was nice! We gave her a guest-book (old family tradition to keep one for memories) and a tray.
Happy birthday, S! Big hug and thank you for preparing such a treat for us tonight!
Family fun
Time to cheer on our team again – our ladies are fighting for a place in the Champions League and need to win at least two games this weekend in order to secure a spot.
First out – Metalist Charkiv – a very good team from the Ukraine. It was a struggle but in the end we managed to win 5-4. A bit too thrilling – but at least we won in the end.
On Saturday we are facing the winner of the other game played tonight – Manchester United vs. PSV Eindhoven where Manchester won 4-0 and will be our opponents. A very tough game to win, but our ladies are playing really well and have a home-arena advantage so that is great.
A really fun evening together, the four of us. We started with a pasta dinner, went on with a coffee at my sister’s work and then continued with the soccer game to end the day.
Beef
Very long and busy Tuesday. I took a walk this morning to the subway – nice way to start the day.
We went out for lunch today and choose the beef stroganoff at Bouqueria Torget. It is not as fancy as their restaurant, but quite praiseworthily and always delicious.
Tonight we have contacted the customer service department of the cruise company to sort out the details that remain. They are having problems with the check-in service and need to do things manually for us. I hope things will be all in order sooner rather than later.
New colleague
What a weekend – filled with fun things to do. It went by way too quickly and now it is Monday already.
This morning we welcomed a new colleague to work. Our student is ready to fly and we need a new student to replace him. She started today. So, our fall will look a little different since we need to train her and give her a good ground to be able to assist and do her job.
I took a walk back from the subway to get some steps in and I got home just in time to not get wet by the rain. Now I’m doing some laundry and catching up on dit and dat since I haven’t been home all weekend. Hubby is still not well so he is working from home.
Finnkampen – day 2
Another amazing day at our beautiful stadium with great track & field performances. The day was very sunny and nice until the very last half hour when it started to rain – and it rained quite a lot. But, we sat under the roof so it wasn’t a problem for us.
After the second day;
Men Sweden – Finland – 252 – 201
Women Sweden – Finland – 242.5 – 211.5
Boys Sweden – Finland – 118 – 105 – completed day 1
Girls Sweden – Finland – 99 – 120 – completed day 1The biggest win ever for our men. And our women and boys won too. Only the girls suffered a loss. A great weekend has come to an end – thank you for a great couple of days with my parents at the stadium.
Finnkampen 100 years
Day 1 of this years edition of Finnkampen and a special year since it is the 100 year anniversary! Extra fun to participate and the stadium was sold out with 12.500 in the audience.
I went with my parents to attend the lunch for all the veterans before the competition started. It was nice and the food was really good too!
Great track & field event with a lot of good results. And hardly any rain at all! Perfect! Our crown princess was there along with her family to bring some extra shine to the event. Always a pleasure to watch Duplantis jump – he didn’t manage to set a new record but he won without any problems.
After the first day;
Men Sweden – Finland – 137 – 111
Women Sweden – Finland – 143.5 – 105.5
Boys Sweden – Finland – 118 – 105 – completed
Girls Sweden – Finland – 99 – 120 – completed
Concert
Friday. The temperature had dropped another degree this morning, 5C (41F) – what is happening? It is still August!! Around lunch time it started raining and it will continue for more or less the whole weekend, according to the prognosis.
Tonight it is finally time to go to the concert that my husband gave me for my birthday – to see Ed Sheeran here in Stockholm at the Strawberry Arena. Yeah! Can’t wait. I have wanted to see him live for years and now it is finally happening. I hope it will be a great evening.
We will take the commuter train in and have dinner close to the arena before it starts. No point in taking the car with all that people there. Then we have a full schedule all weekend with Finnkampen at Stadion celebrating 100 years as an international contest. Apparently the oldest contest in the world. So cool. I’m going to be there cheering with my parents – hopefully watching some great track & field.
